Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

I have have a playstation 3 and when I hooked it up to my tv as I normally do there is no picture or sound. I then tried switching to my HDMI cable with the same results. Yes, I made sure I set my tv input to the right stations. The ps3 will accept disks the light will flash the blue and green then stay solid. It will eject the disk as well. Also it will go into stand by mode (red light) and I can use the controler to restart it. It will flash the blue and green light then go solid but there is no picture or sound. The fan inside the playstation does go on and off at times. Please can someone help?! Thanks

I have the same problem as the guy stated. I haven't tried the console on a different tv yet, but i have tried different consoles using the same inputs on the tv and they work no problem.

This sounds like a frustrating issue! Do you have another TV that you can test this on to make sure it's not an issue with the TV?

Try powering on you unit press and hold the power button and the eject button for 30 sec unti the power light begins to flash thats going to reset the setting of your ps3, and if that does not work i would rec> sending it out so sony if its still under warranty or exchanging it from where u bought it.

Hi our PS3 has no sound or picture. It does have the green power light on.

What is probably happening, is your PS3 is set for the wrong type of output. If you are using an HDMI cord, try switching to the AV cables that came with your PS3, and set your TV at the appropriate input to correspond with the AV hookups, and see if the picture works then.
If you are using the AV cables, it may have been set to HDMI accidentally. You need to use an HDMI cord, and hook the PS3 up to an HDMI compatible TV or monitor, and select the HDMI input. Once you get the picture working, go to Settings>Display Settings and set the display you wish to use.

All picture and no sound

Rick:
simply unplug--then replug--your HDMI cable. Or also go into the audio setup menu and reapply the "automatic" setting for HDMI to get the sound to work. I don't know if Sony can do anything about this or not in a firmware upgrade, but what it can do is try to simplify the labeling on some of the sound settings.

Hooked up hd cable to ps3 and tv, now have no sound

Be sure to check the cables. You may need to replace them.

Try the cables with another component, if possible.

Also, try using AV cables to verify that it is not the TV and to simply troubleshoot:

To get back to default AV settings:

Press and hold the power button until the systems shuts off. (wait 2 seconds)

Press and hold the power button again until it shuts off again.

Once you have verified that AV is working, turn off console, take out AV cables.

Plug in HDMI cable and turn system back on. Switch TV input to HDMI and it will ask you if you would like to use the HDMI cables, select yes again and verify.

If you cannot get sound, again, check the cables..

If new cables do not work, then your HDMI output is going bad, not from use rather normal wear and tear of the motherboard.

To get the best non HD picture, you will need to get some 'component' cables, rather than the standard AV (red, white, yellow).

Good luck

I had my ps3 hooked up to an hd tv but my tv broke and i have it hooked up to an old tv now. I'm having trouble getting a picture or sound is there any way I can configure it to my old tv?

you need a tv with hdmi to connect too then change settings back to normal but you need it connected to both hdmi and component av at once so you can switch between them both to save the settings. so when you change from hdmi to av you need to change your tv channel from hdmi to either video 1 or 2 then save your settings... hope this helps!

Sound Clipping

Sounds like a faulty cable yes. Try it with the AV cables and see if the sound still is faulty. Or it could be the audio settings, make sure these are correct. And if you switch to AV make sure to make the appropiate changes to the sound settings again when you do change the cables. If not then it will be either your cable or one of the hdmi connectors tv or ps3. try hooking it up to another tv with hdmi.

I just bought a PS3 slim and hooked it up to my 65'' Toshiba DLP TV using a HDMI cable. The problem is i have picture but no sound. I have tried the settings and all seems to be fine, also tried different...

not 100% sure but check the manual for your tv it may be that you need a faster hdmi cable, as with having a larger tv it will work at a faster rate so the basic hdmi cables wont work.

Powered on ps3 with hdmi lead to tv all connections are right was on ps3 yesterday then there was no picture it says unsupported video format on tv but the hdmi lead is the right socket whats happened

It sounds as if the connection has possibly reset itself to a default. Try using the normal RCA connection to start, and if you are able to get a picture, hook up the HDMI cable. You can then simply edit the Video and Sound Connections to accept your HDMI input rather than the RCA input, or you can have it select both, if you have the most recently updated software, and that way, if this ever happens again, you can still have a screen you can see.

Turns on fine no picture on a diferent TV

Hi, i have had to solve this problem in my own home. You must have access to some HDMI output to fix this. the playstation 3 does not have auto-detect like the xbox 360. meaning if you have an hdmi then switch to standard AV, the system wont detect this. you need to hook up the system to an hdmi output, then switch the settings over to the AV output while both sets are plugged in. if you need more clarification feel free to email me! gungraveislife@gmail.com
