Ok so up until a day ago myRCA opal mp3 player worked fine but when i try to start it now it stays on the loading screen and now the computer doesnt recognize it when i connect it. and updating firmware doesnt help because doin that requirs the player to be recognized by the computer.

Plug it into the usb device. Hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds. Go to the RCA website download the latest firmware and install it. That fixed mine and a few other people I know that have one.

I had this problem. I had to really try several different things to get the software to recognize the mp3 player. RCA does have download software that will format your MP3 player and put the firmware on the player. It would be better to get the firmware on without formatting if you have files already on it. Just be sure that you get the screen that shows it is connected to USB.

and download the firmware. start the firmware and when it is runnin
plug the M42xx in at the same time holding down the PLAY BUTTON
(center) until a white screen with a small computer with a line going
to your M42xx is displayed and then release the PLAY button. You can
then click on start and the firmware update will complete,,, DO NOT
DISCONNECT DURING THIS UPDATE... it may take 2 times to complete this
but it will work.... YEA!!!!
our firmware went bad. Just got to the RCA website. http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/ search your make and model download the firmware. Then hook you mp3 player to usb device of your computer. After mp3 is hooked to computer Install the newly downloaded firmware.
