Question about Hotpoint RVM1435 Microwave Oven

Hood light and vent do not operate - everything else works fine

I have model RVM1625SJ01 Hotpoint Microhood. I had a repair guy come out and say it was the smartboard, so I ordered and it still does not work. Is there a relay or something else I can get to make this work?
Thanks, Scott

We just hooked up the hood fan and was wondering if it was normal that when you run the microwave the hood fan cuts in?

I do believe that is the normal way to get rid of the heat and any moisture while the micro is operating .

How do I change the front exhaust to top exhaust on a Kenmore microwave/hood

Hi,

In order to change the venting on the microhood you need to uninstall the unit and at the top of the microwave is the blower unit. Remove the cover, flip the blower and you should then see the fins on the motor, reinstall the unit under the cabinet and your good to go. I hope this helps, good luck

Hood light does not work or vent hood fan

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Presently have a regular hood, would like a microhood. How many inches clearance do I need between the top of the stove to the bottom of the cabinet?

This is a good question to ask at the point of sale. The measurement varies for different models and makes, but 33 - 36 inches is ideal. If you have a 12 or 15 inch tall cabinet above the stove, you are fine. A microhood does require a dedicated electrical circuit. When powewring off the current hood circuit, check to see if any other lights or outlets go off.

Kenmore microhood

"Microhood" seems to be a slang term for the "microwave hood" (hood fan or exhaust fan) which is normally part of an over-the-range microwave oven or range. But these should be available separately, as I seem to recall. I would contact home centers such as Lowe's, Home Depot (if they still exist), etc., or a local appliance store.

If you have Acrobat Reader you can see an exploded diagram of this model here: http://genet.geappliances.com/IPCNet/Dispatcher?REQUEST=IPCNETGETPDF&file=00000000/00018000/00018081.p01.pdf Ref # 110 and 115 are thermostats and ref # 27 is the hood thermal cutout. One of these devices is likely bad. You can order them via GE online at http://www.geappliances.com/shop/prts/ or via Sears online at http://www3.sears.com You should also be able to find them at local appliance parts stores. Here are the GE part numbers and prices: TCO HOOD REF# 27 WB27X10789 $11.50 THERMOSTAT,BIMETAL REF# 115 WB27X10506 $21.75 THERMOSTAT- BIMETAL REF# 110 WB27X10788 $12.75 Good luck.

The control circuit board needs to be removed and repaired. We routinely repair these from customers nationwide for $32.50. It sure beats the cost of a new board!
