On my E510 the problem is the front I/O panel. To see if that is your problem unplug the power, pull the I/O panel cable from the motherboard (in front of the power supply next to the ram), pull the bios battery for 30 seconds. Put the battery back in and plug the power cord back in. It should start if the I/O panel is the problem. Here is Dell's part number for the assembly - "X8543 Front I/O and Control Panel Assembly". Until you replace it you will have to remove the bios battery every time you turn it off to get it to start again. Rebooting it is not affacted.

    Hi there

Well if a good monitor still doesn't get a signal, I think it's the graphics card in the PC. I suggest you take it to a shop where they can test it with another graphics card, before they sell you a replacement one.

Unplug all the Harddrives, Cd Drives attached to the motherborad. Try turning up the system. If it boots, you may to have to change the I/O cables.
Still if it is amber, then your motherboard is having the problem with. As long as the LED glows PCU gotta be okay.
Kindly get back for futher help

Now carefully remove all the components from the motherboard. Run the computer only with Motherboard, processor and RAM. Turn it on. Check if there's any progress. We are trying to scale down the issue here.

How do I fix a dimension E510 with a solid amber power light?

A steady or Amber blinking power button indicates a low voltage problem. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Just to make sure that nothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.

Blinking amber light and wont boot up.

if the power button was blinking amber, unplug your tower, and hold the power button for 30 seconds to 1 minute, to use any excess power stored in the capassitors in the pc. this was told to me by a dell tech, it is a small issue with the 3100=E310, and 5150=E510 Dimension desktops

Steady amber Power light

You are looking at a new mother board. I would take it to a certified technician shop, so they can run a stress test on the motherboard for final benidiction.

Dell E510 has a solid amber light, no light codes or sound codes. Unit powers up but will not boot. I unplugged and replugged all the wires to no avail. Does anyone have a clue as to why?

Contact dell technical support for a replacement motherboard. If I remember correctly this model had a recall due to faulty capicitors and should be replaced even if you are not under the service agreement still.

Wont boot up

Check to see if the Hard drive cable is securley attached to the mother board, and is powered up. Also, try taking the Hard drive and seeing if it works in another computer. If it does not work, then it is a bad hard drive that is causing this problem. Else, it may be a bad mother board. I Had this problem before, with a Dell. Called Tech Support, set a guy out, 30 minutes later, Problem solved. Best of Luck Dude.
