This is re incoming fax function on my 3055. Several times per day, fax rings 3 times only and no fax is received.. It appears that after the 3rd ring it shuts off. I have had test faxes sent and some do arrive successfully....other contacts tell me that they have made multiple attempts to fax but faxes do not arrive. Why would machine shut off after 3rd ring? I'm stumped!

You will need to select manual under the RX settings. Under fax settings. Rx means receive, Tx means transmit. The fax settings are under additional functios * on keyboard. Or you can put a switch in the phone line. When you tell it manual you will have to be there to receive a fax. In the fax settings there are several options on how and when you receive a fax. Ring settings forward settings things like this can customize your fax. You can set how many rings before it answers. Leave it on auto and set more rings so it won't answer until that many rings. Default is 2 or 3 rings. Give it 5 that will give you time to answer and you can still get faxes when your not there. Play around with it and figure out what works for you.
Check video for 'fax receive set up' in similar model:
Manual receive: In coming call receives like telephone Fax/tele: Incoming call rings like telephone if its not fax, if incoming is fax it will entered in fax mode automatically Automatic: Incoming call converts in fax mode after ring count ends( ring to answer option also avail in fax set up mode rage 1-6 rings) Fax: Incoming calls straight away converts in to fax mode.( this option only for dedicated fax lines) Set up your best option as per your requirement.
Go to menu option and choose the option fax and set the parameter like auto receive or manual set the ring auto answer mode after certain ring. If it is in auto receiving mode it will receive the fax after the ring which you set. Make sure the phone wire which you insert in fax machine getting proper dial tone and getting out going calling facility. Have a nice day and do not forget to rate please...!
Why don't you consider a separate Phone/Fax switch. It will answer first ring and detect a fax and then ring the fax/printer you can set that to one ring as well, otherwise it ring the answering machine that is plugged into that and you can set that to answer on 3 or 4 rings. Then you have time to pickup phone if you are available.
Thanks what I do. The boxes are about $30 They are fairly cheap.
The only thing that I can think of for you to do is to completly delete it from your computer & then re-download it. Only do this if you get no other resolution. Or you can call 1-800-474-7739 for hp technical support. I just did & they were a great help to me!
