Garmin 760 will not power on

I used webupadter from Garmin for my new 760 and now my GArmin will not power on. It will go to Garmins jump screen then power down. The computer will not recoognize it when attached to the usb. How to fix? Rest will not work.I do have the same problem on the 775t, after i added up some maps in the garmin directory. Its the third 775t unit i have changed through my UK dealer. I wonder if there is any really hard reset of the unit to its factory defaults, erasing everything else new, that I might have added.

I did took the battery out, wait a while but the 775t nuvi is doing the same thing. It keeps trying to boot load the maps and then it goes blank (it turns its self off). Everything started when i tried to load one more map on the Garmin directory, included the keys ofcource in the unl file. I really need to hered reset the garmin 775t to its factory default erasing even every extra maps added in it. Thanks Dimitris

Is the battery charged? What does the battery indicator say? If you are using it in the car, is the power cord connected and working properly? If it is working correctly, you should see a lightning bolt symbol over the battery bar graph showing that it is connected to an external power source and that it is charging.
Try plugging it into your PC and looking at the battery indicator. Do you see the lightning bolt? Does it shut off when your using it on the PC? If not, there is something not right with the car adapter. Also, just because it was plugged into the car adapter does not mean it was charging. Many cars will turn off the cigarette/accessory jack when the ignition is off or shut off after a short while to protect the car's battery from being run down. Try hooking it up the the PC overnight and leave the PC on. In the morning try using it. Does it still shut off? If so, the internal battey may be bad. If it works and doesn't shut down, you have a problem with it not charging in the car and the adapter may be bad.

Are you using a USB cable that you got from Garmin? You might have to buy their cable, as opposed to using one that you already had lying around. There are tons of people having issues like this. Garmin doesn't include the USB cable with the unit. Your camera cable has the same style of plug, so you hook it up - and then the weirdness starts. Some people get lucky and it works, while others find symptoms as described above. Garmin really ought to include a USB cable with the device if a special one is required. This is giving them a black eye whether they realize it or not.

HI
You can try a master reset: press and hold the lower right corner of the screen and power it on. You should get a message asking if you want to delete user data just say yes.

Reset by turning on and keeping finger on the screen then clicking 'yes' to 'reset all user data".
try hooking it with computer connecting usb wire several times as sometimes if it is not getting connected this happens.also try to check out in any other socket of usb in your computer.

Update file on garmin corrupted

Same happened to my Garmin Nuvi 760, power failed during upload. Files corrupted. Garmin could not locate it with Sat. Told me to trash it and they would give me $70 towards purchase of a new one, which would not fit in my cars receiver. My solution was to purchase a used one that had a good Garmin File folder. I copied the folder to my pc. It was important to remove the device file from the copied folder. I then formatted my corrupted 760. Then copied the folder from my pc into the formatted 760. Next step was to use Garmin Express to replace the missing device file, do the updates, and reinstall the maps. Product code to unlock maps was inside the rear plastic housing to unlock the maps. Whole process took about 4 hours and it works like new now.

Power to unit but wont turn on

I own a Garmin also, my suggestion is plug it in to your computer, leave your computer on so it can charge up overnight. If in the morning it wont power on my suggestion would be to contact Garmin you may have a bad battery or some other internal problem. Garmins web site is www.Garmin.com Contact there Tech department to see what they would charge you to check out your unit. It has to be cheaper than buying a new one.

I hope this helps you out if so leave me some feedback.

We pourchased online the unlimited Garmin nuvi 760

Hi
You have to go to GARMINS web site and download the map updater program called Garmin Download Manager. to your pc - then put it on the Garmin.

Here is the download page with many of the Garmin features - I have found Garmin very good about this.

Garmin nuvi won't turn on

folks, the garmins have an on-board battery that needs to be powered up (at least occasionally) via the usb port - like from your computer. just using the dc car power cord does nothing for this battery. i've had this exact same problem on both my 760 and 780 nuvi units. fixed it using the usb charge. seems to run down differently for all the various nuvi models. my regular charge will hold for 7 hours on my old 660, my 760 and 780 work about 5 hours. my 'power up' failed on the 660 after 10 months with no internal battery charge, but the 7xx models only took about 5-6 months to 'fail.' hope this helps. jack b :-) in midland, tx usa
