Question about Epson Stylus CX5400 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Over the last 6 months print quality (steaky horizontal lines) problems developed when printing. It first started with the cyan, than yellow , now magenta and black) I replaced the cartridges for both blue and yellow back in May when it started (the pink and black just started this week so haven't even tried replacing them since the ink indicators says there is at least 20% ink in them) and then did a head cleaning/nozzle check repeatedly and still no go. Didn't worry in may sicne I really haven't needed to print in color but now with the Black not working I am at a loss. I tried cleaning the head repeatedly and doing a nozzle check and still bad - to the point there is no or very little ink on the page. Do I need a new printer head and can I replace that myself and how? Or do I need to just buy a new printer?
Before replacing the print head on the printer try these steps , and if the printer get long without printing the changes of ink getting dried id high and resulting streaky printing or missing ink on the paper even if the ink is detected by the printer ...
# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.
1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.
# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

1. Get compressed air
2. Run Printhead under HOT water, do not worry about contacts getting slightly wet.
3. Blow compressed air with straw attachment into screens where the cartridge nozzle sits on printhead. then let it sit and dry.
4. reinstall print test page
5. if this fails open paint/photoshop and print a page of the color that is not printing correctly. rinse and repeat until colors flow freely.
I have several ip4300s and I have yet to give up the ghost on a printer with a clog ujsing this method.
