you must have a wire ( sound plug ) not connect properly ,
sometime those plug loose with time ,
when powered the make connection and those sound happen !
Return it this tv have intermittent problems with it tv Tuner signal board.That the board,where the incomming broadcasting signal cable plug into it.U should able just pick one option Mono or Stereo sorround sound on Audio Setting setting selection surround sound ON.
I would guess you have a High Voltage Leak at the Anode Lead Cap where it Mounts to the CRT. This is not a area to mess with You are better off calling a professional to fix it. It may be a little difficult to confirm if it is a intermittent problem.

If the hissing noise is from the LCD, it could be from the power supply due to failing capacitors. This noise is generated when the TV is trying to compensate for the lack of voltage/curent requirements.
make sure the heater elements are properly nested into their respective electrical sockets. if they get loose, then the electrical contact can be intermittent and arc/spark a bit..
Is the popping noise coming from the speakers? If it is, lowering the volume to zero does not stop the popping from the speakers, then you have an audio output failure. If the sound is not from the speakers, you probably have a high voltage leak. If this is the case, are you in a moist environment or using the set near a window??
