Question about Kenwood KDC-V6017 CD Player

Powers up and asks for code?

Yes, I bought this radio off of ebay for my father as a gift and it was/is locked with a code I emailed the guy I bought it off of on ebay and asked him for the code he says he never installed a code in the radio that he just removed it unhooked it from his car put it and the remote in the factory box that it came in when he had bought it new with all the paperwork that had come with it and shipped it to me. I worked as a Installer for Audio Express in Jonesboro, Ar for 6 or 7 years we sold and installed Kenwood 12volt car and Home Audio products! That has been about 8 years ago the manger has changed since I worked there so he won't help me in any way even though I have my receipt for the purchase from ebay. So when I get it in I give it to my dad and he goes and installs it into his truck and when he powers it up it asks for the code. Whats my options here that I haven with this radio? I gave to much for it to just trash it and eat my losses ya know and there is one thing I've learn'd since being a certified installer there is a way around everything! I just can't figure this one out for myself! So any help would be greatly appreciated very, very, much........... Thank you for your time, Dave Matthews

Re: Powers up and asks for code?

Dave, Do you have the owner's manual for the radio, and if so have you tried to input the number code they have exampled in the manual? The guy you bought it from did get into the procedure for setting up a security code - - he may not have gone as far as completing the task but from the owner's manual instructions it appears he went far enough and then maybe disconnected it leaving it in "CODE" display. If you need the manual I can send it to you privately, just drop me an email. And as a last resort you could try calling Kenwood support 800-536-9663. They may be able to send you the backdoor code. Hope this helps! Bill

You'll either have to contact the dealer for your particular make of car or buy a radio code. Alternatively, you can ask at a shop the fits car radios - they may be able to re-program it for you.

Radio codes can be bought on Ebay. The link below will give you a general idea:

What is the security code and how to enter it

Code is supplied when bought new. Chk the books supplied with the vehicle and u should find a small card in there with security code.
Go to dealership and ask for the code if its not in the books. They supply it free of charge.

I have a sony xr-6559 Cassette radio with cd facillities but don't know which cd changer will work with it

There is a guy online selling this radio with the CD Changer, and he calls it the cdx-51. There is one on ebay for around $45, and you can see it here Hopefully, with the code, you can find the changer you need.

Entering radio code

To enter the radio code on most Renaults you do not use the buttons on the radio. Instead use the remote control buttons on the steering column.

The remote control has a rotary control, (either vol +/- or track/station +/-), use this to set each individual digit.

The bottom button on the controller moves to the next digit of the code.

When you have the correct code on the display, press and hold the bottom button to enter the code.

You should hear a beep and the radio should start up.

You have 3 attempts to enter the code. If an incorrect code is entered 3 times, then the radio will lock up for about 30 mins before it will allow you to try again. If this happens 3 times, then the radio will lock up permanently.

If you don't have the correct code, or the radio is locked, then there are companies which can re-code the radio.

You will have to go to main dealer with car documents, and the should be able to get the code for you, or recode your radio. Not sure how much they charge for this, but I doubt it is much.
