Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

No audio with digitial audio while playing LBP

So I have my PS3 connected to my entertainment system (which actually is my sound card on my computer) and it works great for every game I play except Little Big Planet.

Anyone else have this problem, had this problem and now how to solve it, or have the number for Sony's Playstation support?

Game sound doesn't work

Hello..

What you are experiencing is as a result of bad audio connection.

Please Check the mute function on your TV or audio system if there is no sound

Check the audio settings of your device to make sure it "sees" the PS3. Also make sure you are using the correct audio cables and they are properly connected.

Make sure the input mode on your TV is compatible with the connectors used by the PS3

Also check the audio settings of the game you are playing..

Hello,

Adjust the system's audio output settings. These settings are mainly used when the system is connected to audio devices that support digital audio output, such as AV amplifiers (receivers) for home entertainment systems.
1.
Confirm the formats supported by your audio device.
Settings vary depending on supported formats. For details, refer to the instructions supplied with the audio device.
2.
Select in_soundset.gif (Sound Settings) under in_setting.gif (Settings) in the home menu.
3.
Select [Audio Output Settings].
4.
Select the input connector on the audio device. Channel numbers and audio formats that are supported vary depending on the connector in use.

Select audio output formats.
Select all output formats that are supported by the audio device in use. If [Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI] is selected in step 4, the screen for selecting audio output formats will not be displayed. If [HDMI] is selected, you can also select to automatically set the audio output format. (In this case, the HDMI device must be turned on.)

Check your settings.
You can go back to the previous screen and revise the settings by pressing the in_left_key.gif button.

Save your settings.
The audio output settings are saved on the system.
Hints
  • [Linear PCM 2 Ch.] audio is set to be output from all output connectors by default. If you change the audio output settings, audio will be output only from the connectors that were set.
  • If you change the audio output settings, the system will no longer be able to output audio from multiple output connectors at the same time. For example, if your system is connected to a TV via an HDMI cable and to an audio device via a digital optical cable and you switch to [Digital Out (Optical)] under [Audio Output Settings], audio will no longer be output from the TV. To output audio from the TV, switch the setting to [HDMI], or select in_setting.gif (Settings) > in_soundset.gif (Sound Settings) > [Audio Multi-Output] and set the option to [On].
  • If you select [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 88.2 kHz] or [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 176.4 kHz] in step 5, sound may be intermittent or may not be emitted from some audio devices.
  • When using an HDMI cable, only [Linear PCM 2 Ch.] audio will be output from PlayStation®2 and PlayStation® format software. To output Dolby Digital or DTS audio, you must connect the PS3™ system and the audio device using a digital optical cable and switch to [Digital Out (Optical)] under [Audio Output Settings].
  • If a device that is not compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard is connected to the system using an HDMI cable, video and/or audio cannot be output from the system.

Hope it helped.

I cant get my ps3 to play threw my sony surrond system period the tv is a sony too i have all the hdmi cables hooked up why wont ps3 play on the surround?

You can't get audio from HDMI cables. You have to connect the regular AV cables into your sound system first or you can use the digital output from the PS3 into your sound system if you've got the right cables. You'll also have to configure this through the audio settings. This should solve your problem. Let me know if it doesn't.

Little big planet update [caution with this game].

The same thing happened to me. Played LBP for about 20 mins, the game froze and now it will not load any discs properly. It will show the game but then shows an error. I tried spraying air into it which loaded LBP for another 20 mins but then did the same thing. Of course my warranty ran out about two weeks ago. This is ********. I am not paying $150 for something SONY should pay for. I take great care of all of my equipment and own all of the new game systems and a ton of pro audio gear. None of my other equipment has ever done this only 8 months after owning it. Hell my PS2 lasted all the way up till a month ago and I just need to fix something minor on it. Is this just a coincidence that is happening after loading LBP?

My ps3 hangs the game after playing 4 to 5 hours ?? i bought it yesterday! the sound of the game is there bt it hangs right away!!!

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your new PS3. In regards to the PS3 locking up after a few hours of play this sounds like the system is getting hot. You need to look at where you have your system. A lot of the entertainment centers out there do not provide enough air flow to make sure the system will stay cool. So even though you may have a cooling kick connected to the system it still could be getting hot. So if you have an in closed entertainment center you might what to look at setting on the top to get better air flow. Also carpet is bad too. Now if this your only place to put it you will want to go to your local hardware store and get a wool shelf piece to put the system on. Note if you need to cut down they can normally do this. Also note if you still have trouble you may have already caused damage to the system(also it is possble that you got a bad unit but you will still want to make sure you have a setup to make sure the unit gets properly cooled). So after you get your setup adjusted you may need to get the system exchanged or sent in to Sony for repair.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions on this.
