SOURCE: My pc freezes :(

Hi redjeans21,
There can be a verity of reasons that can cause you to loose display. I'll list some suggestions you can try that may fix this issue. After each suggestion try the game that freezes the system more often than the others. (If you have never cleaned the inside of your system please do so). Use canned air & blow out the guts of the motherboard & power supply).
First, please make sure your antivirus software is up to date & run a full system scan. If you need a virus scanner you can download & install AVG for free at this link. http://free.avg.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition Once you are sure your system is clean let’s run a test on your system memory. Click on the link below to download memtest86 software. http://memtest.org/
Scroll down the page until you see three monitor snap shots. Download either. (Suggest the floppy software which is the easiest to use). For bootable floppy disk test software download, (Download - Pre-Compiled package for Floppy (DOS - Win). To create bootable CD test software, (Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip). Boot your system with either disk, floppy or CD & test your memory. You'll know if there is a problem & you'll know what you need to do. (Let’s hope its ok).
The integrated VGA video card is not the greatest for playing games. The reason it is not is because the onboard video uses your system memory to function. Part of your 512MB of system memory goes to your video card & windows XP needs all of the 512MB. It's suggested that an XP system run with 1GB. 512MB is still ok. System freezes are more likely caused by software, including registry errors. Download & run this free registry cleaner. http://www.pctuneuptips.com/recommends/clean/?gclid=CL2RiIrTmpICFSFMGgodODIPzg
Restart your system after the cleaner has finished. Next try running windows check disk. Right click once on My Computer & slide to & left click Open. Right click on C: & slide to & left click Properties.
Left click the Tools tab & than click, Check Now... for Error-checking. Your system will restart & run check disk. Lastly, buy an AGP graphics card & disable the onboard video. The MSI KM4M-L motherboard can only run an AGP card that supports 1.5 volts. This link is a 1.5v AGP card:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4097741&CatId=318
The card above comes with a 2 year warranty.
More AGP's: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2145957&CatId=318

If nothing above has helped or fixed the freezing issue, I would do a fresh install of windows, including a format of the hard disk drive.

Good luck redjeans21!
Mike

Can MSI MS-6380E support radeon x1800?

http://www.legendmicro.com/store/2940_MSI-MS-6380E-010-KT3-Ultra-Socket-A-Socket-462-for-AMD-Athlon-XPDuron-Processor.lmsp

1) Motherboard uses a Socket A processor socket. Also known as Socket 462.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_A

When they switched from the Athlon single-core processors, to the Athlon 64-bit dual-core processors, they went to a completely different processor socket.

AM2,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM2

So using the MSI MS-6380E motherboard with a dual core AMD processor = NO.

I don't seem to find an AMD Athlon 64 X2 1.8GigaHertz processor, except for a mobile version. One used for a laptop in otherwords,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113047

Uses a Socket S1 mobile processor socket,

List of AMD Athlon 64 microprocessors,

Pretend like I'm from Missouri, and Show Me.

Find the processor by it's AMD part number, and post the URL of the website in a Comment.

http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Athlon-Venice-Single-Core-Processor/dp/B003RXLMCC

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
SINGLE-core processor, not X2.
(Socket 939 processor socket, too)

Show me the Processor, and then we can go on.

Memory +cpu upgrade

No to the cpu you selected. Board would not support that cpu. The RAM you selected would probably work but for how long I couldn't say. With prices pretty low right now it would probably be better to purchase a new motherboard, cpu, & RAM. Hope this helps.

this happens if the rams are of different frequencies have a check with the both the ram frequency ...
if they are different then remove 1 ram ....
& try increasing the virtual memory in the OS ...
if you are using the windows xp .. then to increase the virtual memory just go to
control panel >system>advanced>advanced>virtual memory settings>increase the virtual memory for the drive in which the os is installed ....
increase nearly to the double of the ram memory you use ....

this solves your problem ..

KM4M-L and graphics cards/memory queries

I would hate to burst the bubble but if you buy any DDR2 memory, then you will be wasting your money.
This motherboard only supports standard DDR upto 333mhz and only 2gig max of that.

Video card wise, then an ATI 9800 Pro can be had cheaply or an nVidia 6800 AGP version can be purchased new.

Hope it helps =)
