I enjoy watching YouTube as well as other audio on Real Player etc. Even though I have increased and adjusted the settings I do not get good volume on the speakers and have to strain to hear the sound. I would like to have nice loud clear sound output. Many thanks for specific instructions/help!!

Re: want to increase volume on speakers
You may have already reached the limits if you have adjusted the settings through Control Panel (?). Are these external speakers you are listening through or is it the internal speaker? In Control Panel (reached from the Start button, bottom left), choose Sounds and Audio Devices. The Volume tab is the first one. Make sure the Device volume slider bar is all the way to the right. Next, choose Advanced and make sure all those slider bars are up to the top with no Mute boxes checked. Finally, at the bottom choose Speaker Volume and make sure those slider bars are all the way to High. If none of these help and you're using external speakers, it is time to buy a new set. If you only have an internal speaker you're listening with, keep in mind that they aren't powerful enough to give you the kind of volume needed to listen to some things on the web. Chances are there a limit on the volume to keep it from going to loud. If the MP3 has a screen, use it to navigate to a menu and go into it's sound settings. From there, you should be able to raise the max volume to the REAL max.
Yes, the dynamic range on DVD's is enough to cause the high and low passages to be somewhat annoying but, sounds more like a movie theater. This kind of dynamic range showed up first on Beta HiFi and VHS HiFi VCR's because of thier range as well. If there is a feature in your audio menus on your TV such as "audio expansion, SRS, Wide mode, etc." turn it off and let the audio be processed without expansion of any kind as that will amplify your dynamic range alot more.
The lock up issue could be something Philips is aware about and if under warranty contact them. Otherwise not much you can do except manke sure the voltage going to the TV is failry stable between 110 volts and 120 volts. Sometimes dramatic drops and or increases can cause lock up or confusion to the microprocessor in the TV.
