Power outage caused child lock, 2729 model tv

We constantly have short power outages but the most recent one locked up my tv. I was about to start a movie, then the power went out and when I turned the TV back on there was a red M at the top of the screen. Figuring it was a TV glitch I turned off the TV, waited for a minute then turned it back on, where the M was replaced with a CHILD LOCK. I can´t find my user manual and can not use the TV at all. I´ve tried pushing buttons on the remote, turning off the TV for hours, unplugging the TV, everything I could think of. The TV is actually an Akai CFT-2729, and the remote control is Akai CK5D-C7.

Re: power outage caused child lock, 2729 model tv

I'm guessing what you have there is an Akai CFT2791 made by Samsung? And a CFT2729 is not a good model number. You will need to get into the menu and then sub menus to change or turn off the child lock feature. The procedure is well described in the owner's manual and I have the manual. You can email me privately I'll send it to you... Bill

The child lock is on my tv hitachi older model. i have no remote and the tv is turned off.. how do i get it back on to remove the lock???

The child lock on a TV can be a wonderful thing. A parent sometimes cannot be present for the duration of a kids' show, so the child lock ensures they can't watch programs that are off limits. The lock can, however, cause unwanted trouble--if it gets accidentally turned on and you don't know the code, you can find yourself unable to fully enjoy the full range of available television stations. Follow a few easy steps you'll be back to watching regular TV in no time.

Locate the manual for your television. Though slightly embarrassing, accidentally turning on the child lock to a TV is a common problem. The section In the manual about how to set the child lock feature will also explain how to unlock it.

Try a few "universal methods" for unlocking the child lock. Some televisions have a universal code built in for disabling the child lock --no matter what your code is. A common code is "0000."

Unplug your television for a few minutes. The internal battery of the TV is what helps remember what your code. If the TV is unplugged for an extended period of time, it clears the internal memory, which in turn will reset your child lock code.

Rca tv locked after power outage

The owner manual may have that information---Google the model number with manual to try to locate one.

Some brands use all nines for a default code that will unlock regardless of what was first entered.

We had a power outage. TV and video both now dead. Changes fuses in plugs, still dead. Could the fuses in the appliances be blown ?

Power outages can damage electronic items!

It is certain that the fuses in each of the units power supplies will be blown but I would recommend that you get both in for servicing as sometimes changing the fuses INSIDE and trying them again CAN cause more damage - and more cost to repair.

Better to be safe than sorry! (:-)

Hi there!

Power outages and lightning are the main causes of Electronic failure. It has obviously affected your TV and will need to be seen to by a repair technician if you are not skilled to do so. Regards and good luck, JUS004

TV making chirping sound when plugged into power outlet. There was a power outage and now the tv is just chirping. I did open it up just to see if any fuses were blown and the only fuse I could find...

If one of the secondary supplies is shorted, the power supply will "chirp" when plugged in. This is the power supply's way of protecting itself and this usually happens when the horizontal output transistor is shorted. The only real problem I find with front AV jacks is that they crack loose from the board, because they are subjected to the extra stress of the AV jacks being constantly plugged in and unplugged.
