I need to reformat my pc please help it is compaq presario 6330ca

You will need a windows installation disk.

Insert the disc into the CD/DVD drive and shutdown the computer. After powering back on the computer you should be prompted with the installation screen. Follow the directions to reformat your computer.

If you have multiple partitions and would like to format only one that is not the operating system drive go to the control panel > System and security > Administrative tools > Computer Management.

Once Computer Management is open select Storage > Disk Management. You can select a partition you would like to reformat from here.

Reformating any drive will erase all data on that drive. Only do this if you are sure you want to. I would stronly recommending backing up all files you might want later.

My Dell desktop computer will not boot and it is too old to spend money on repairs. However, I would like to be able to get the files off my hard drive. If I buy a kit and turn the internal hard drive...

Nope. you cannot access your files. even if you use a external hard dive to access the files.

i suggest you install windows 7 in your computer but do not reformat the hard disk . in that way your files will still be saved in your harddrive.
Once you have access to your files i suggest you save them in a flash drive or external hard drive if you have one. then reformat your computer and install a windows xp.

here is a tutorial on how to install windows 7 without reformatting your harddrive.

Goodluck. If you have any success using my solution please give me updates.. Thanks

Didnt get a CD to install the router - how can I do this manually

You can go the the manufacturers' website and download the software. Get a flash drive, plug it in a computer that's connected to the Internet, go to the website and download the file to the flash drive. Or, you can directly connect this computer to the modem, without the router, and connect to the Internet to download the file for the router.

Cannot open C: drive by double click

you have a virus. i encountered the same problem on a HP Pavillion desktop, its a trojan type virus that hides in your recycler folder, you need to run Avira Anti Virus, its the only one ive found that can get rid of it, you can get it free at downloads.com. or you can reformat your harddrive and do a clean re install of windows but then you lose everything on your pc. try running avira, if that doesnt work you may want to consider reformatting. the recycler folder is supposed to be in windows but the virus hides itself in the folder, im not exactly sure what it does but i know it will restrict your access to the c drive until you remove it, you cant just delete it either, it will show back up in like 2 minutes, also be careful with flash drives, removable usb storage, it will put itself on those drives also and infect other computers that you plug them in to unless you remove it from the flash drive then disconnrct the flash drive but be quick so it doesnt re appear on the flash.

If you have access to another computer with internet (friend, relative, neighbor, etc...), get a USB flash drive or thumb drive (2 or 4 GB can be found for around $10 - $15), then follow these steps:

1. locate your express service tag code, usually found on a sticker somewhere on the computer's case, and write it down.
2. go to Dell's support website: http://support.dell.com
3. Click "Drivers and Downloads"
4. Choose "By Service Tag"
5. Enter your Express Service Tag and click GO
6. Scroll down to "Network"
7. Download the "Recommended" driver and save it to the USB flash drive.

Take the USB flash drive back to your computer, open it in Windows Explorer, then double click the downloaded file and follow the installation directions from there.

You could also do the same with a CD-R if you don't have a thumb drive, but it's a bit more involved.

Running XP pro on a Compaq Presario Desktop AMD. Two USB ports on front of unit worked prior to reinstalling OS . Afterwards plugging in a flash drive that worked previously... Computer will Sometimes...

Check to see if the back ports behave the same way with the flash drive, If so then it appears to be a software issue. If not...look closely at the pins inside the ports and make sure none are bent. If attempting to straighten pins be sure to power system off first. Also check inside the case to see that the front USB connectors are secure. Also

My computer is always freezing. why???

Overtime computers tend to slow down because of all the software we load. An app here, a browser plug in there, etc. In time you get a combination of installs which does not work well together. My solution is to reformat the hard drive and reinstall your operating system. I do this on my machine about one a year. It's a pain but the machine runs well afterwards. Be careful to back up all your data before reformatting.

Will not load.

my old computer had a problem like this, i think the only way to fix a problem like this would be to reformat your hard drive and reinstall your operating system, which would delete everything on your hard drive...if you do not want to lose the files on your hard drive, you can hook up the hard drive to a different computer as a secondary drive and take the files you need off of it...then put the drive back in the original computer and reformat...after that just put back the files back on the original computer with a flash drive or an external hard drive...
cant think of another way to solve this
