DVD tray will not open.

My mother's Zenith XBV342 dvd player will not open so she can retrieve the disc. When she presses the open button, the readout says "open" but the tray will not slide out. She has tried to gently pry the tray open, but it won't budge.

DVD DOOR WILL NOT OPEN ... no small hole on the fascia and gentle prying

on the top, bottom and both sides of the door have not worked either! I can

hear some "slight noise" when the button is pushed but without the door opening? Any other suggestions/solutions other than a "Big Hammer?"

This device (DVD) has only been used approximately ten (10) times!!!!

Hi All
I had a similar problem with my fathers XBV342, my problem was that the DVD tray would open but when a disc was inserted it would close then open again time after time.
I took the top off of the unit and the front cover fascia panel off then checked the tray movement, I found that the belt for the tray motor located near the front of the tray was loose, which meant that the motor did not raise the drive motor to its correct location, which in turn didn't allow the motor to turn the disc, this causes the tray to open again, I guess it thinks it has a misaligned disc and ejects the tray, I hope this helps someone.

Have a look around the tray and see if you can spot a small hole (about a millimetre or 3/64" in diameter) in the fascia. Very often bang in the middle right below the tray. If you find it, you're in luck. Get a large paper clip and unwind it until you have a long straight piece of stiff wire with a small handle on the end. With the power off, gently push this wire straight into the hole. The secret is to go straight in, perpendicular to the fascia. What you're trying to do is to press on a small pad hidden behind the hole: if you miss this, there's no knowing what you might disturb instead. If you get the wire in the right place, and the whole thing hasn't seized solid, pushing gently on the wire should unlatch the tray - after which you can gently slide it open and get your disc out. A.

SOURCE: DVD tray will not open.

Hello,

The disc is dislodged and jamming the drawer. You have to remove the cover, about three, maybe four screws, and then take the disc out to resolve the problem.

I was playing with settings on my Zenith xbv342 and set the menu to progressive scan. I now have a blue screen with the words "progressive scan mode" I cannot get a picture and it is stuck in this m

Progressive scan mode is used by DVD players to artificially scale standard resolution DVDs to HD resolution, usually 720i. Is your set capable of receiving HD resolution? If not, that is probably why you are getting the blue screen.

I can not turn off the proggressive scan!

Try this to disabel the progress scan mode: Pointing the remote at the player, press the STOP key to stop any disc that is playing. Next, press the STOP key again and hold it for five seconds before releasing it. This should turn the Progressive Scan off.
