Question about Datalogic PSC QuickScan QS6500 Handheld Barcode Scanner

Problems with very small Barcodes

I use a Datalogic Quickscan QS6500. I can´t read Barcodes that have less than 4 characters. An older Scanner (DLC6090-M1) reads the small Barcodes without problems. Is it a problem with the datalogic scanners???

call me...I can probably help. It's probably a set-up based on the symbology of the code. Some codes, (I 2 of 5 for example) have minimum and maximums available. It's probably a set-up problem - or if the barcode is physically "small" i.e. high density, it could be you have a scanner that wasn't designed for it. My number is 1-866-306-7226 and I am in Mountain Time, so bear that in mind when you call. Bill Matisz qdata inc. 1-866-306-7226

Default settings set a global limit of 4.

You can set the global minimum code length by following the instructions in the user manual on page 24:

1) Start
2) Set Global Min Length
3) Scan the number on page 303: I.e. '0' followed by '3' to set length to 3
4) Set
5) End

Scanner won't scan library barcodes.

The barcode reader is something that the backup software typically uses to identify which tape it is dealing with.
So typically your backup software can already natively read the barcode and therefor you don't need any other software.
The linked barcode reader is probably for reading a barcode that was provided via a picture (from a scanner or camera). This has nothing to do with the barcode reader that can be part of a tape library. NET UPC Barcode Reader

PSC 6000 Plus not scanning

There are a few questions:

What kind of cable do you use?
USB, SERIAL, PS2

What kind of computer?
Normal computer or Laptop?

Then...

When you recieve the scanner like new you always have to program it.

First you do

Reset to factory defaults.... Never do this with working scanners

then

you have to program it.

First the Connection type
and then if needed a computer type.

After that you usually have to scan a suffix.

This means when you scan a barcode it needs to do something after.

normally it doesn't give Enter after you scan.
That is what the suffix is for.

and then you scan additional symbologies to scan

Like Code 39, UPC A etc. etc.

It needs to be programmed with the manual you recieved.
if you don't have it you can download here.

http://www.scanning.datalogic.com/sitefiles/manuals.aspx

go down in the list to quickscan 6000
and programming manual.

please don't print all the pages. only what you need.

If you need more help i will hear it.

good luck.

I need an owners manual

You can download a manual (06656 User's Guide/Programming Guide) at the DataLogic site. They bought PSC in 2005.

If your cables are connected between your keyboard and PC, be sure to set up the correct Keyboard Wedge Parameters, beginning on Page 34, to allow connectivity.
I'd start by scannig barcodes "CE" and "ZA" to reset to default wedge values. If that doesn't work, I'd procede to sc an "CF" for PC=AT,PS/2.
Pages 36 & 37 address the Caps Lock issue, where the scanned value is in the wrong upper or lower case.

Have a nice day,
