Question about Dell (313-1220) CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive

1 Answer

Hi, l noticed just recently when I insert a CD into my Dell Laptop (Latitude d810) that the system does not acknowledge, open, play this cd at all. I've tried various CD's: copied and originals and I have tried opening or playing/ripping these cd's from all programs like my itunes, windows media player and nero. I have downloaded all windows updates. When i go to MY COMPUTER, all i see there is a drive D: which says DVD-RW (drive:D). What happended? How do I fix this? Many thanks for your assistance.

Hi Harry010 , I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? 1.) Did you recently perform any type of software upgrades? 2.) Did you recently perform any firmware upgrades? 3.) Did you perform any changes to the hardware by updating or changing drivers? Any of the above mentioned changes can affect the behavior of the laptop's operating system; including doing any automatic updates from Microsoft. Based on the limited info you posted with your inquiry, it sounds like there is some sort of driver conflict that is causing the OS to re-boot, perhaps in an attempt to restore itself to a previously known good start-up.

I want to transfer the data from 2 small folders on my Dell 8W007-A01 drive (Optiplex) to my Toshiba laptop. Who would do this for me (and what would it cost)? Thanks Chris

You can do this yourself
Insert the disk into a working computer's CD drive and copy the folders onto an USB flash drive, then insert the USB flash drive into your Toshiba and copy the folders off the USB flash drive onto your Toshiba.

I have a dell latitude and the dvd drive does not identify a dvd is in it and all it does is make a lot of noise. It will play a cd however. under device manager it indicates the drive is okay. any...

There is a driver update for dvd at dell support. Also the dell latitude won't play a DVD if you don't have the software for the DVD player like " WinDVD" That's why it would play CD's and not DVD's. Look for your Tag number on your Dell Laptop and go to http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&cat=sup&k=windvd&rpp=12&p=1&subcat=dyd&rf=all&nk=f&sort=K&ira=False&~srd=False&ipsys=False&advsrch=False&~ck=anav
You might still be able to get the Dell's version of WinDVD for free

The door is stuck. I push the button, the green light flashes, but the door won't open. Dell Latitude/Inspiron CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive :8W007-A01

It is most likely jammed. If you look on the front of the drive, there should be a little hole. Use a paper clip that you have straightened out and insert it into the hole. When you feel resistance, push it hard carefully. The hole is an emergency/manual tray release. It should pop the tray out. If you can't get the tray to release and you have a CD or DVD in the drive, you will have to take the drive out of the system and take it apart to get the platter out. Of course this means you will have to buy a new drive as the old one will probably be unusable, even if you try to put it back together.

Dvd won't open program

Does your dvd drive opens other dvd's if it does, that means your dvd has gone bad but if your dvd drive fails to play any dvd's than it's a problem with your dvd drive.

Best way to test it would be to insert a new empty dvd and see if your dvd drive opens it.
