hello,
1.first go to http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems
click on the green button that has run now
Run the microsft fix it tool
if it works GREAT! if not go to #2
#2 go to this site http://www.techsupportall.com/fixed-solved-cd-drive-not-found-not-detect-remove-upper-and-lower-filter/
follow instructions
IF THAT WORKS GREAT! if not proceed to 3
#3 turn off computer unplug power cord.
open your computer case unplug the cables that connect to the back of the cd rom. plug computer back in power it up. shut it down once it loads. then once it is powered down open case again and plug the cables back in make sure they are connected well. close case and power up the computer.

hope that helps

How do I reformat my 500gb external hard drive for my mac?

Well, you can plug it into your mac, and then open the applications folder on your mac(by opening the Macintosh HD icon first) and opening the utilities folder and selecting Disk Utility. Through disk utility, you can reformat any drive to Mac OS(preferably journaled.) so that you can use it with Time Machine, and the MAC OS.

I'm no MAC expert, but I would first try a new cable, then try a different computer...if neither works, it's the drive. If you're really desperate, and brave, open the case and try the hard drive inside either in a different enclosure, or connect it to an internal cable if you can. If you can hear the drive spinning up, it shouldn't be bad, so one of the above may save your data. If not, reply here, I know a major MAC guru who may have a better idea on what to do.

I have a "My Book", Essential Edition, External drive, which a friend set up for me with a lot of information on it. When I plug in the USB and the addaptor (after having my MAC Book booted up),...

gud day...does ur mac book support any plug and play device? if it is then try to plug it to ur another usb port if it doesnt work...there sumthing wrong with your mac book.,it means that your mac book doesnt recognize the hardware to attach on to it...or ur mac software doesnt support the external hard drive...mac book operating system doesnt work with your essential edition external drive
