My 2004 van makes a loud whinging noise, it gets louder when I'm turning. Even when I'm stopped and just turn the steering wheel back and forth. It's so loud.
SOURCE: steering difficult(slow) and a whining noise when turning wheel
The whine is most likely your power steering pump. Check the fluid in the pump. If you are low on power steering fluid you may have a leaking hose or fitting or the seals in the pump may have began leaaking. If you continue to run the auto without power steering fluid you will burn up the power steering pump very quickly.

Thanks to the person with the wd40 suggestion. stuff that little red tube right up there and liberally spray. I just had the panic when I went to drive to the store in my 98 town & country and the key didn't turn. I read lots of varying solutions and was ready to get the emergency locksmith out here to replace the barrel and then I stumbled across that suggestion here. It made so much sense...and it worked. The barrel will probably still need to be replaced at some point, but not urgent.
thanks again!
SOURCE: my power steering pump makes a growling noise even
Does it make the growling noise when the fluid is at the correct level? If it does, the noise is a warning that your power steering pump needs to be replaced.
SOURCE: whining noise from front end. starts at 5mph and
Hi,
If the sound is coming from your power steering pump and the fluid level is good, the pump could be going out.

low fluids?
I assume people would check fluids before finding a web site
I make love to all my vehicles I never think to tell people about fluids Sorry
Ha, Peter you're funny. It looks like there is steering fluid in there, but there was a red hard crusty film on the two front tires. It wasn't oily and there are no red spots where I park the van every night. Could this be related to the whining noise. I get the oile changed all the time. FYI two times ago the place rotated my tires.
Took my van to the old dealership service dept. They said it was in the steering and I could spend 1000.00 to change the reservoir and what not, but it wasn't neccessary. The fluid is fine and if I could live with the noise it's fine. I'm chosing to live with it.
Well ---the reservoir is $18.00 & the P/S Pump is $80.00 for the parts SO --$1000.00 ? Rack & Pinion is $210.00 Just for parts Still want to go to a dealer Too expensive Your paying the Business Loan on the large property
