Question about Toshiba Portege R100 Notebook

1 Answer

Laptop keyboard I need to replace a toshiba laptop keyboard. Found some "Compatible Models" (fit for more than one model) for my laptop. But I know that every keyboard has a unique number, can I use a "compatible " one? Or a keyboard that ONLY fits my laptop would work better? If you happen to know, what' s the # for Toshiba Portege R100? Bought in 2003. Thanks.

Yes, it the laptop keyboard. It's out of Warranty, so can't send to Toshiba repair. I was planning to order one online and then find a computer repair shop to replace it.

Are you talking about using an external keyboard or replacing the keyboard on the actual laptop? If you are talking about the laptop keyboard, I suggest you send it in to Toshiba and have them replace it for because if you mess up when replacing it yourself, you could permanently damage your laptop.

Satellite L655D-S5093 keyboard removal

This is the User's Manual for the L655-S5098 laptop:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=SB&os=&category=&moid=2759985&rpn=PSK2CU&modelFilter=L655-S5098&selCategory=2756709&selFamily=1073768663

Predictably, its useless when performing maintenance such as keyboard replacement, but page 82 indicates that this laptop supports "most USB-compatible [external] keyboards", so, while the chicklet keyboard is down, you can boot and use the system with a workaround USB keyboard.

I could not find an L655-S5093 laptop model on the Toshiba support web site, which is found at http://www.pcsupport.toshiba.com

The closest I could locate for you are these two How-to Guides:

Please watch the following YouTube video to get an idea of how this could be done:

Other similar videos for different laptop models could be found in that page as well. I would recommend that you watch as much of them as possible so as to get a grasp on how this could be done for the different models, & identify which method suits your laptop model.

Compatible Toshiba System Boards?

Hi Ray !

I would not risk to buy on-line system boards for two reasons!

ONLY when you get it, you will know if it FITS in the chasis, and if it WORKS after you connect all wires and parts, but i believe you'll have to pay for it before!

Try to get some help from Toshiba support first!

Also, you just mentioned the difference between two boards you have on-line, but not the price.

Did you ask Toshiba how much will cot you a new board?

If there is acceptiable difference, buy a new one !

Regards.

New keyboard

Check out the following information on how to replace keyboards on Toshiba laptops.

Your model may be similar, but it's basically the same. Just be very careful not to break the plastic wedges or the data ribbon.
