Question about Hitachi HDT725050VLAT80 500 GB EIDE Hard Drive

1 Answer

Hdd crash? I'm just trying to confirm if my hard drive crashed. I have a 500gb 7200rpm Hitachi HDD in an IOMEGA inclosure. Recently it slipped off of my desk onto carpeted floor. Since then I've tried to turn it on, but it keeps making a funny noise that sounds like a system Boot Error Alarm or like barring that is out of place. Can anyone help me? If from your experience if you think it has crashed can you post suggestions for where I can send it for repairs?

If it still detectable then there's some possibilities you might revived your hard drive, but if you already hear some clicking sounds on your drive, the drive is broken

you could run the chkdsk utility

click start control panel administrive tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now start or you might tick one box then return after its finished the first repair then return and tick the second box you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage this drive

hope this helps

HARD DRIVE NOT DETECTED

I would just try and come out straight to you, that your harddrive has very much likely to have crashed. Hard Drives are generally Very Fragile because of the Tiny Read/Write head that is inside.
The moment it drops on the floor it might have got broken. and that is why you are hearing the funny noise...although it will still keep spinning because the voltage is still being supplied onto it, but you might not be able to read or write anything onto it.
Sorry.
Hope this helps.
Goodluck.

Samsung 250GB HD250HJ SATA II.

Most likely if it makes sound then it is getting ready to crash, don't take a chance and remove your files and replace.
