Question about Symantec WinFax Pro for PC

Cannot close controller to allow re-install of winfax pro 10.02

Was constructing docs in word perfect program while winfax 10.02 was faxing apprx 500 messages. normal activity and usual daily usage. experienced problems in WP, i.e. could not copy one file to another. rebooting frequently fixes problems like this, however, could not stop winfax from faxing in order to reboot. ctrl alt delete did not work. went to control panel to remove winfax prior to a reinstall. deleted symantec from windows explorer. add/delete function would not remove winfax pro while controller was active but asked if I wanted computer to remove controller. replied yes but computer unsuccessful, screen returned to populated list of programs. shut down computer, rebooted via power switch but controller automatically came back on. winfax screen is blank and message at top says "not responding". buttons at top do not work. winfax pro is default printer and is so indicated in printer section. as a troubleshoot tried to fax a doc from WP, but message says "winfax is not active for this user account. please start the crontroller and try again". yellow fax machine icon shows at bottom right when computer is turned on, however, shadow behind icon--indicating auto receive is on--is NOT present. message says auto receive is off. checked windows, winfax phonebooks still present and the muffled sounds from computer tell me it is faxing as I am writing this email. perhaps when it is finished faxing in about 4 hours--and the controller is inactive--I'll be able to straighten things out. until then, what is your evaluation? Thanks you. Mark A.

I posted a probable solution for this under a user named Floopstick.
Check that out. But if you only need to fax once in a while Faxzero is free. You would need to scan in your data if you are not creating it on your machine. Tango.

Receiving Fax Line always 'busy'

Installing fax software can be tricky, particularly if you want to import phone-book listings from an existing database or PIM, such as Microsoft Outlook. But WinFax Pro proves easy to configure. A series of introductory screens walks you through installation; you just click Next to accept the default configuration. In our tests, WinFax Pro accurately detected our fax modem and seamlessly imported our contacts from Microsoft Outlook. By comparison, competing fax programs either don't import directly from Outlook or make the process trickier than it needs to be. you can try to look on website and there will explain to you. http://reviews.cnet.com/e-mail/winfax-pro-10-0/4505-3536_7-1536745.html

Winfax pro problem

This is a solution that was suggested for an earlier edition of the Winfax Pro, but there is no reason why it shouldn?t work on this one as well: 1. Close Winfax and any other program that has anything to do with it, delete all the temp files that yo don?t need. 2. Run Scandisk and fix any problems that may come up. 3. Run delfix.exe which is located in the winfax folder in the status files. 4. Run delfix-rebuild and delfix-optimize and check if the problem is solved. If the problem reoccurs there is another possibility- to change the name of the WinFax\data folder and create a new one which you will transfer the address book file, status files etc. from the old folder. Note that there might be some information that wouldn?t go through.
