I had the same problem...running Windows XP. Contacted an Apple Product Specialist. Here is what we did, successfully:

  1. Before doing anything, I suggest you create a SYSTEM RESTORE point. Then:
  2. Restart computer and get into SAFE MODE. I did so by repeatedly hitting F8;
  3. Once in SAFE MODE hit "enter" twice, when asked to do so;
  4. Go to "start", then "run" REGEDIT. Hit "enter";
  5. Look for: Hkey Local_machine system
  6. Click edit and find $%&'()*+ "find next"
  7. Right click: delete all of $%&'*+
  8. Click "exit" and reboot.
Its kind of scary to get into the registry, but it worked for me. Good luck, Josh.

Usb device not recognized

Hello,

I suggest you power off you printer and restart it after some minutes.

You could try another usb to see if it will recognize it.

If the usb is not still recognized, I advice you uninstall the printer driver on your system and reinstall after a while.

If it is not still recognizing it, it means the usb might be bad, you may need to get another usb.

Take care.

Usb device not recognize

You mentioned that you uninstalled the unknown device from the Device manager. If you uninstall it then connected your usb flash drive you will see an error again on your device manager. This means that the driver for your usb port is not properly installed.

To install it, visit dell website, look for the model of your machine and locate the driver, download it then install from your machine.

This solution worked for me when I got the USB device not recognized message:

It can be quite frustrating. I've heard that older computers are more likely to have the USB device not recognized message.
