I have been looking for a W3650 recovery disk for quite some time. Acer says they won''t even sell one because of microsoft regulation on XP.

Bummer

I CAN save off user files, Wipe the disk and install Ubuntu 10,4 (Long term Support).

But I'll wait to see if I can beg, borrow someone else's recovery DVD

One option is to run virus removal software in windows safe mode which is started by pressing the F8 key when starting up the computer. I suggest running an online scan such as trend micro housecall at housecall.trendmicro.com/ . This will probably remove the virus. Also, is there important data on the hard drive that she will need? If that is the issue, there are other ways to copy files from the hard drive without actually copying the virus. Let me know exactly what you want to do? If you just want to run the recovery, but lose everything that was on the hard drive, use the F11 and it will completely refresh your computer to how it was when you got it. The discs aren't necessary as the recovery section is on the Hard Drive.

I have the same computer with a similar issue. However, pushing F11 pulls up the restore and it tells me to put in cd/dvd 1. I don't have a cd/dvd 1 .
    Any ideas?

The recover section will allow her to restore from the recover partion as long as the recover partition has not been removed.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I have emachines model W3650 and want to know how to set back to factory setting.

(1) Go to start menu(2) Click on all programs(3) click on Emachine(4) click on Emachine recovery management(5) Click on restore on the bar across the top(6) click on restore to system factory default
Some emachines can be restored by pressing ALT+F10, but not sure on your model. Give it a try if you can't restore it to factory defaults using Emachine recovery management.

Recovery disks cost about £15, check what version of windows you have, you may be able to download that version of windows from a torrent site and use your own COA key to activate it.

Remove the emachine/PC ANGEL RECOVERY SOFTWARE

PC angel isn't installed as such it uses the desktop.ini to load its software.

desktop.ini is used to by windows to customise the view of individal folders in windows.

if you know how go to command prompt
type in;
attrib -h -r -s -a c:\folder\*.* /d /s
( replace c:\folder with the drive/folder of the protected folder )
next type in
del c:\folder\desktop.ini
( Again replace c:\folder with the drive/folder of the protected folder)

Bye bye protection for that folder
