1) Remove cooling fans for access. Remove accessory belts. Release PS hose clamp which is also in the way.
2) Break crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer bolt and remove pulley (inspect closely for any defects or loosness between outer pulley and inner section). This can be difficult. I use a Honda restraint tool and 1/2" breaker bar jammed against drivers side frame to hold the engine, and 19-mm deep impact socket, 1/2"-breaker bar, and 3-ft cheater pipe over breaker bar to gain leverage. This works good. Air impact is an option only if you remove the radiator for horizontal access room. Not worth all the trouble.
3) Remove upper and lower TB covers
4) Replace TB, water pump, and idlers.
5) Reverse to close. Torque crankshaft pulley bolt to spec.

How do i set my distributor advance for 2.5liter, 1987 acura? I can't seem to find a good balance, i get either no low end power or no high end power

15 degrees BTDC according to autozone.com

  1. Start engine and allow it to warm up until the cooling fan comes on.
  2. Connect a timing light to engine; while engine idles, point light toward pointer on timing belt cover.
  3. Inspect ignition timing at idle. Timing should be 15plus or minus2 degrees BTDC, using the RED timing mark, at 680plus or minus50 rpm in N .
    1. If timing adjustment is necessary, complete following:
    1. Remove control box upper cover and ignition timing adjuster from control box.
    2. Drill 2 rivets off with a 1 / 8 in. drill bit, then separate stay cover from adjuster.

How to adjust timing in a acura cl 2.3

The ignition timing is controlled by a computer...you do not adjust it. if you have modifications to the engine you can buy a new computer to match the mods or have yours programed...otherwise, millions are spent for research and developement of a car before it is manufactured...so keep it the way the engineers designed it...will last much much longer.

    Timing adjustment

There is no adjustment for the ignition timing, it is all computer controlled. The only way the timing could be out is if the chain jumped a tooth.
