When installing these units there should be at least 36" clearance on the top, 8" clearance on sides, and 3" from the floor. If you have another question you can go to I hope this helps!

Where do i get a thermocouple for my Vanguard VP2800BTD

Those thermocouples are expensive. I have sold them in the past. They come from Italy. It has been my experience these thermocouples are not the problem.
Dust gets into the pilot safety and makes it shut down thinking the oxygen is low in the room. You must flush or blow out this dust. I have a demo movie HERE of this system and a
page showing where and how to clean the safety pilot without messing it up HERE

I turned my propane fireplace on and it set my smoke alarm off. We have lived here for three years and never had this problem before. Please advise.

check to see if the flame is pure blue. if not you have incomplete combustion letting CO or CO2 into the room. The flame will look yellow if this is the case. An orange flame indicates dust and dirt around the burner assembly. If it is yellow, the should be 1-2 set screws on the back of the burner assembly that will let you adjust the primary air being mixed with the propane.Adjust until you get blue flame and tighten set screws.

When the flame goes out, So does the pilot light

what kind of heater do you have? is is a vent less heater because if it is the main reason it would shut off is the ods(oxygen depletion sensor). make sure that the heater is not too big for the room. also purchase a carbon monoxide detector

Heater makes my smoke detector go off.....

Gary, it sounds like the heater needs to be cleaned. Sounds like the heat exchanger is full of dirt bunny's.If you have a manual it will tell you how and what all needs cleaned. If you do not have manual i would call a heating/cooling repair company and have them come out and clean and inspect it. Then you can watch how the tech. does it then you will know how it is done if you want to do it next time. The heater should be cleaned every year they say but you might be able to go every other year

Vanguard heater

Usually the pilot goes out because of a faulty flame sensor or wire connection.
