Question about Pentax Optio 330RS Digital Camera

1 Answer

Automatic retract of lens and camera shutdown after startup

Unexpectedly the lens of my Optio 330 retracts immediately after starting up the camera. Only the PENTAX tm display is briefly visible. When the lens is fully expanded a short vibration (less than 1/4 second) is heard after which the lens retracts and the camera switches off. This occurs in all modes except the viewing mode: the lens does not need to rollout in this mode and the camera behaves normally. Updating firmware did not solve the problem. Soft- and hard reset results in no change.

Lens stuck in

You'll need to either take this to a qualified repair shop or replace. Depending on the cost of the repair (Which I would guess as significant) it will more than likely be more economical to replace.

Shutdown sometimes fails - Lens retracts then immediately extends again

I am having the same problem with my camera. I have to take the batteries out to get it to shut down. I also cannot view my photos on the camera, when I try to turn it to view, it goes to shoot mode.

But it does seem to be a lens problem. Possibly the lens is out of sync as mentioned in another post here.If there is a grinding, the lens is probably damaged by dirt or sand.
Make sure the batteries or battery is fully charged.

Lens does not retract

I'm looking for a solution to this too. The repair is going to cost more than the camera did. SUCKS!!!

Shutter problem

I have an Optio 330 too. Have had it since Feb 2002 (second owner) and taken over 5000 shots. I experienced something similar earlier this year: when i pressed the "on" button, the lens would extend, then there would be a jarring noise, the lens retracts, and the camera switches off. The camera couldnt work at all. I almost sent it in for servicing after a few days. However, I gave its base a firm bang squarely onto a thick floor rug. That solved it! The problem recurred one month later, i did the same thing, and it solved the problem again. Overall, the Optio is quite hardy, though it can get cranky with age. Hope it works for you.

You can try removing the battery and leaving out overnight then putting it back and charging it up then try the power. This has worked for some people but not all.
