O.k checking your Hard disk out it's a ATA (IDE) interface. so you need to purchase a 2.5" USB Enclosure wich supports ATA (IDE) interface.. it will not cost a lot ( normally these enclosures do not need external power. they are USB power based. since you are using win 98, many of the enclosure comes with a driver CD. i have seen the drives for Win98. so it should not be a big issue for you to get the HDD up and running.

some facts about the enlosure

good luck.

You just can get the 2.5" inclosure for your laptop hard drive and use it as an external hard drive for any other computer.
You can buy it here:

Windows 98 is not the way to go if you wish to recover your files. USB support on it is very limited compared to modern operating systems.

Plug your case containing the old drive into a computer that has a modern operating system and put the files you want onto a cd, then your Windows 98 computer will read them without a problem.

Good luck to you.

Didn't know you had win 98.

First, download knoppix. Burn the image to a CD and boot from it. It will boot into a windows like environment. Use the adapter you already have and attach your hard drive to the computer. It will then show up as a drive as well as your win 98 hard drive. Copy the files you need from it. There you go!

    Hello.

    This one should work. KNOPPIX_V5.1.1CD-2007-01-04-EN.iso

Are you familliar with burning images? Your CD burning application should do it. What it does is it runs a windows like linux operating system straight from the CD. I prefer this one to do this sort of thing because it automatically mounts all drives its sees on your desktop including your old hard drive attached with the attachment to your computer. Then you can just save the files over.

Can you use a Seagate 500GB FreeAgent GoFlex external Hard Drive with ready boost in windows 7?

Yes, but because it's a hard disk and has low transfer speeds it will actually slow down the pc instead of making it work faster. Ready boost is designed to be used only with memory sticks of the latest generation.

I have the seagate barracuda 7200.7 200 gbytes whats the part on the outside that the master belt cable hooks in to a circuit board can i change that my kid took it apart not the insides of the harddrive...

You will need to get another circuit board from another Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB Hard drive. Either ask your local computer shop or check local ads for sale. Like Gumtree or Ebay or the like.
A hard drive recovery centre may have this particular circuit board as they will use it to transfer your information from your current hard drive to a new hard drive. This may be another option available to you.

Take care!

My Seagate FreeAgent Go250GB become write protected for Macbook, but works fine on windows laptop. How can I fix this issue?

It's probably formatted to the wrong filesystem; Macs prefer HFS+, Windows prefers NTFS, but they both can read and write FAT32. I'd recommend using the Mac's Disk Utility application to reformat the drive to be FAT 32 (but be careful, this will erase the external hard drive, so back up first!)

Assuming you are using a Windows operating system, you can just plug it into your computer's USB ports, and the computer will recognise it as another hard drive.

Instructions:
Double-click on 'My Computer' and take note of what drive letters are there (C:, D:, etc.) before you plug in the Seagate Freeagent.
Plug in the Seagate Freeagent. You'll see the new drive, likely E: or F: (depending on what is already there before you plugged in the Seagate Freeagent)
Double-click on the new drive, and it'll open up and you'll see the files stored on that drive. You can drag and drop files and save to this drive like any other folder on your computer.

PS3 hard drive transfer

seagate eSATA 250gb hard drive, the PS3 uses a laptop sata drive, how you get this to work?

You have basically have 2 options you could try:

Use Linux for retrieve the data of get the original mainboard back.

The PS3 + HDD bonds together, so if you were to save stuff eg, online purchases, you need to have the same account for max of 5 downloads to 5 differenct units, BUT you cannot just swap out the HDD and expect it to work. The PS3 has a feature to backup from internal directly to an external USB hard drive but online limited to data, most purchased movies and/or MP3 will not be transferred, it sucks.

You can have as much HDD you want but only YOU can use them , cannot be shared with another PS3. I hope that helps a bit
