Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I purchased a VR1940 in 2005. I did't start using it until 2 months ago. I have been burning DVDs on HP's invent dvd+rw 4.7GB 4x. Until recently, the VR1940 model has been reproducing like a champ!!! Using the same HP rewritable DVDs, after I burn the DVD, the playback plays sometimes & sometimes not. Sometimes it plays part of the program or jumps around during the replay. Sometimes playback seems to drag??? I purchased a very good lens cleaner, but to no avail. After burning these DVDs,I play them on another component and the DVD once playing wonderfully, seems to be malfunctioning!! Also the DVD recorder is sometime running at high speed after I have shifted to the VCR segment. I have to take the DVD out of the compartment so that it will completely stop running and burn up the motor. Also the DVD section does not always go to the Menu/Table of Contents when you activate or insert a disk in the DVD. I hope I can eventually retreive the info on these DVDs!!!!!!! Once again, I have used the VR1940 only for two months!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Reads cds and dvds, but won't burn to them

Your drive can only burn CDs, not DVDs. To burn CDs you need to purchase a blank CD-R or CD-RW at a local computer store. You can burn a CD-R only once but a CD-RW can erased and written upon many time.
Try Nero software for burning.

I only can write with 4x maximum while dvd could

DVD burners will only write to the maximum stated.

Also if you are using 4x DVDs then that is all they will burn at without often giving errors when used.

Trying to burn a 4x DVD at lets say 16x can cause burn failure or data corruption.

Cd's on the other hand can burn at lower speeds than they are stated.

To burn DVDs at higher speeds your burner needs to be capable of that speed

Burned DVDs play on PC but won't play on home player. I have 3 PC (2HPs and 1 Parts built),running XP home, pro, media. I bought 2 Samsung SH-S182 DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner, and have tried them on all 3...

Nero 6 and 7 does not provides us the facilitiy of burning the DVD in appropriate DVD Format. Instead it burns the DVD in the normal DATA Format, which is not supportable by our DVD Player. To play the DVD in our DVD Player we should burn the DVD in the appropriate DVD Burner which itself converts the extension of the movie and make it proper for a DVD Player to read it. It also adds some files to the DVD which is sometimes used by the dvd player in running the DVD.

Cant write DVDs with my DVD+RW RW8165 Drive

your drive may not be compatible with -rw disks. Try using +rw. They are totally different.

also i am having a similar issue with vista with burning dvds. I have to set it on 4x or it fails around 90 % up to 99%. Lower your max burn speed.
