The start switch on my Kenmore model 417.93042300 only works after working it around a bit. I want to replace it but don't know how to get the front pane off so I can get at the switch.
You will have to remove the back panel on the control console, to give you a better visual on the unit go to sears.com/parts and in the model # put your info in then click on control/top panel view. Good luck

The motors centrifugal switch may be stuck. Try having someone start it while pressing in the door switch while you rotate the drum with your hand by grabbing one of the drum vanes. I don't know which direction your drum rotates. Try both. This may start the drum turning on its own and resetting the switch
check the actual door switch,, you can jumper it to see if this is the problem, Just connect the 2 wires together , if this cures the problem replace the switch
the door switch is broke.when you push on the paddle of the door switch the lite should go out,if you don't see the paddle it most likely broke off,you need to send the full model number next time,it will start with 110.or similar.the door switch is a safety so the machine won't run until the door is closed,if the switch is broke no power will go to start the dryer
The motor centrifugal switch is not switching from the start winding to the run winding. The switch should stay in the run winding when the motor picks up speed unless power to the motor is interrupted or cut off. The switch is replaceable on most dryer models but sometimes it is an integral or built-in part of the dryer motor and failure of the switch requires the replacement of the motor. Indicate the exact model number of the dryer for more accurate troubleshooting and repair advice.
The problem is more likely the door switch is failing or out of adjustment/loose. You will need to remove the door panel. This is easy to do. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru the process and also show you how to test the switch. It's adifferent model but the procedure will pretty much be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model.
your motor maybe going out. theres a switch on the motor that starts it . on most models the start switch is built into the motor. however some models the switch can be replaced by itself.
Two possibilities: 1) Least likely cause. Start button is not opening when released. Don't know how far you wish to go with this but it will require some troubleshooting. 2) Most likely cause. Motor start switch has a set of contacts that close when the dryer starts and this set of contacts "seals" around the push button. If this is the case, a new switch is in order. Switch is normally replaceable without replacing the motor. Other option is use "as is".
