Got tv about 03-04, can't find the manual, so don't know troubleshooting or what the remote buttons do. one nite i turned tv on and all there was was thin vertical moving pastel lines, there was sound and i could use the 04 channel on the remote. then after about 30 minutes, the picture was mostly black and then blinked off and on with vertical lines or black with multicolor moving little star like dots. is there something with the remote buttons? or junk tv? or repairable?? i have unplugged it for 24 hours, but nothing changed.

It depends on which input you have the DVD plugged into. The pictures below show the different inputs. One of those should match what you see on the back of your DVD. If you don't know which, you can turn on your DVD player and hit the INPUTS button shown on the picture of the remote control shown below. Or, if it's connected to one of the inputs pointed to by the DIRECT SELECT arrow on the picture of the remote control, you can go there directly from watching the TV.
common problems with these, usually customers here a loud pop. then the screen goes blank. I would try...
Some of these have a 4 pin test on the control board that you can jump with solder to get test pattern. If you get it to do that then these boards maybe good and would replace the control board. if nothing happens, then
the upper & lower drive also the Ysus and Zsus boards all at the same time.
last could be a defective panel.
hope this helps. p/n are on all the boards.
Chances are, if it's an older set, componants have changed value through use over time, which also includes the picture tubes and associated driver circuits. The way to compensate for this color drift is through adjustments. Either turn the red down a little, or turn the blue and/or green UP. Be carefull though as there are potentially dangerous voltages in and around the circuit boards and picture tubes.
Mine looks like too, but the line running across isn't on my set, picture looks like this, and the sound works fine. I took the tuner board all the way out and turned the set on and it did the same thing, then I unplugged the top wire on the board next to the tuner board and the screen went black. plugged it back in and the screen came back with the scrambled picture. Anyone know why? Bad mainboard maybe? the left of the tuner board?
update: Well, we ended up calling the repair man and we had a bad Y-sustain board and also a bad Z-sustain board. According to the guy who fixed it, it was due to over use of the TV and using main power button instead of shutting off through the cable remote. 650.00 later and a few weeks later, we now have a fixed plasma. No real suggestions on how to get more life out of the new boards.
