Can't access aol mail after new Netgear modem/router

I'm on AT&T DSL. I had to replace the modem/router with a NETGEAR DNG2000. It works great on my desktop but I want to use WIFI with my Gateway laptop. I can connect and browse but I cannot get into my AOL mail. AOL is my homepage and I can get there but I cannot get into mail. It says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:
- You are not connected to the Internet - but I am connected
- The website is encountering problems. - but it is available on the desktop
- There might be a typing error in the address - not there isn't.

What you can try:
Diagnose Connection Problems"

When I did this it says
"Windows did not detect any problems with your Internet connection over HTTP and HTTPS but was not able to make a successful connection over FTP/ The most likely cause of this problem is that a firewall client running on your machine is blocking the necessary FTP ports.

Ifyou are trying to use FTP, please contact the manufacturer of your pc for assistance."
I turned my firewall off and still was not able to get into mail.

There is a firewall inside of your router it is possible that you router is blocking the connection... try going to its webpage and looking for the firewall or de-materialized zone setting.. and allow it to be exposed.. then turn the firewall on ur pc back on...

I bought a netgear from someone to hook to my hughes net modem & hav no idea how to begin to get it hooked up

I rcommend you RESET your Netgear router first.
To RESET the Netgear, power up the Netgear then press andhold the RESET button at the back of the router until all the LEDs flash. Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on yourcomputer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the admin password and configure thewireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

To connect to your wireless router, the router needsits wireless settings to be configured with the SSID, encryption key etc., alsothe wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router. When you connect the cable or DSL modem to the router then you will be able to access the Internet.

How do i hook up the netgear to my laptop

you'll have to first connect the computer to the dsl/cable modem via ethernet cable, then connect the modem to your computer directly, then access the configuration page of the router and set the wifi settings including security option (WPA, WPA2, WEP, Shared), then open the wifi adapter settings on your laptop and make sure the security option and security key are entered correctly. disconnect the ethernet cable from the laptop to the modem and test the connection.

Netgear will not connect to the internet on my laptop

Check the power adapter to the Netgear router with a multi-meter. The voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the power adapter.

Wireless connection problems

Its hard to diagnose cause the process starts long before your current setup..ie, programming your router. So I have attached a website from Microsoft that walks you thru the steps to set up your wireless home network so you can backtrack...good luck and let me know if you have any problems. Pls rate this solution.

Please help

You may try Mac Cloning if you have Cable Internet connection. If you have DSL Internet connection, then set the router to PPPoE or change its LAN IP or local IP address to a different one; 192.168.2.1, to avoid IP address conflict with the DSL modem.
