Question about Tascam 2488mkii 24 Track Recording Workstation

1 Answer

The unit will not boot up.

Between takes the unit stopped responding correctly. When I pushed the play or record button the lights that should have glowed solid blinked. When I tried to shut the unit down it told me to exit and "stop the transport", which wasn't running, leaving me with no way to shut the unit down other than to just turn it off, which I did. Now when I try to turn it back on it says, "Cannon reboot! Not detect HDD correctly. Please power off and check H/W." Have I fried something? How do I proceed. The unit has about 2 whole hours of use. It's practically brand new.
Thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry, I had that same message come up and like you I hadn't used the mkii that much...I was able to reach a tech at tascam and he gave me the following advice and it should reset the unit;.

Here's what he said to do; first you power off and then you hold down the following buttons;

quick rout button....shift button....send button...and the shut down button.....while holding down these 4 buttons turn on your unit.....when it says initialize..let go and hopefully it will reset....

Hope this helps JP

How do I fix a Roland Digital Piano FP-8 that has refused to play sounds despite the fact that it displays lights?

If everything lights up and responds to button pushes like normal, and you've done a hard reset as described in the manual, check to see if you have sound out of the headphone jack. It's most likely not a user serviceable problem and will need to go to the shop, but it will probably be the output amp rather than the main board.

Why does my mixer take so long to select something from the menu and why does it freeze up?

Sounds like you need more ram or computer space. You didn't list what time of mixer or computer so can only answer basicly. If using a computer (which it sounds like) see how much the mixer needs andhow much space available on your hard drive. This is called a latency problem. Basicaly how long does it take for the computer to respond to commands while it is doing a task. either get a bigger hard drive and more ram or clear out some files on your computer. You can also go into settings and change the settings. You'll have to look through the manual on latency problems.

Recording problem

1. Press and hold down the ASSIGN A button (the light should be blinking) then (simultaneously) press the REC button above channel number 1. The light should blink when you do this.
2. Release the ASSIGN A and the REC button
3. Press the REC button above channel 1 (the light should be blinking by itself)
4. You should see the meters moving with in the display above Input A and Track 1 when you speak into the microphone.
5. Press the REWIND button twice until the display reads ABS 00.00.00.00
6. Press and hold the RECORD button and press the PLAY button. The REC light above channel one, the PLAY light and the RECORD light should become solid.
7. After recording press the STOP button.
8. Press the REWIND button twice until the display reads ABS 00.00.00.00
9. Press the PLAY button.

Sound won't come out when we try to play after recording. the thing worked fine for a while and now nothing. then it'll record fine but when we try to play what was recorded we get nothing. keep in mind...

Make sure the memory of the unit is not clear full. Strange things happen when things are full. It MAY look like it is recording, but it really isn't. Other thing is to make sure you have selected a song to play. Review the thing about structure of the files and folders in the manual. It looks like one can get lost in the menus on this unit.

Cannot Boot!! Not dtect HDD correctly, Please Poer Off, and check H/W .... this i sthe message that appears on my Tascam2488mkII everytime I boot it up... can someone please help

It sounds like you have either a hard drive failure or have lost the internal operating system in your unit.

BE VERY careful if you have critical data as it still might be recoverable.

I would contact the factory on this one.
