Question about RCA 36V430T 36" TV

1 Answer

Tv shut down and I found the HOT to be shorted.

Installed replacement transistor and nothing. There are no ps voltages with the exception of 163vdc on the gate of the mosfet. I have checked for solder joint problems and all electrolytic caps check out ok. There are no shorted diodes in the circuit and no visible damage such as arching etc. I am working without a schematic so any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks 'Tech 1819'

I ordered a flyback today and hopefully we will see the light in a couple of days-

  • psbrennan Jan 23, 2009

Well, I installed the replacement Flyback and the power LED lit for a couple of seconds and then the HOT started buzzing. It has shorted again. Anything else I should look for before putting in another transistor?

  • psbrennan Jan 25, 2009

The Transistor is definatly shorted across all three legs. I have not found anything else that is shorted or terribly out of tolerance. I took the HOT out of circuit and the power supply is running ok. Any other thoughts?

    Thanks--

    cool, keep me posted..

remove the HOT and check the resistance between the base, collector and emitter. Do this with the transistor out of circuit.

Check and replace damaged component/s at its horizontal scan output section circuit. Check the LOT (Line Output Transformer) too for damage. Replace the horizontal scan output transistor. Check the input voltage to LOT. If the voltage is absent check the feeder resistor; if any. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Any short circuit at the horizontal output section circuit will shut down all the secondary SMPS voltages, as there is short circuit protection circuit to all Sony TVs.

Turn tv on, tv screen will come on blue then turn off

Hi
I think your TV set has a short circuit in the RGB output circuit and shuts down or mute to protect the CRT. This circuit is located in small board attached to the CRt neck. If you are keen on electronics or you have a fried that is, you can mesure the voltages in the collectors of the three big transistor mounted on that board. The voltages of these transistor collectors are slightly diferent and the faulty one has low or even no voltage. It should be replaced.

Hello,
The Horizontal Output transistor needs to be changed as it is most likely shorted. The current transistor on this set is a 2SD3402 (no longer available) it's new replacement part number is the 2SC5902.
Order 2 2SC5902 Horiz Output transistors.Replace the transistor by it self once and if all is ok then fine.
If not replace it again and also the the Flyback HV transformer. The HOT transistor is probably shorted again and the transformer is causing it.

It's the copper coiled magnet on the neck of the crt closest to the front of the tube.

check your power supply board, higher voltage than the normal voltage coming out to your power supply, replace the oscillator that control your regulator.

the old ticking sound... yes.. it means your power supply shut down and continously trys to reboot ... hense the tick sound as the voltage rises and fails.

Means you got a short somewhere. Most likely the obvious high power consuming High Voltage Suppy... and as I found in 99.9 percent the Horizontal power Transistor shorted... 80 percent Flyback, 10 percent audio... 10 percent some odd circuits like vertical or yoke as shorted.

you have a short.

Tv shutting off timer light blinking

Your TV is in the protection mode. First, locate the horizontal output transistor. This is found very close to, or next to, the horizontal output transformer (also known as the flyback). The flyback should be on an aluminum heat sink, or on the side of the metal chassis. Disconnect or unsolder two of the three legs of the transistor. Measure it with your meter, or plug in the set with the light bulb attached across the fuse.
If the transistor is shorted, or the light bulb doesn’t glow bright anymore, replace the transistor and plug back in. If the light bulb glows bright again, you must replace both the flyback and horizontal output transistor simultaneously. In some cases this will fix the set, but sometimes there are multiple problems with a set.
Go to where the flyback is, and start measuring the diodes and capacitors on the flyback itself. If you don't find any shorts there, it could be a shorted vertical output IC, a shorted sound IC, a shorted disc capacitor in the Hi Voltage/sweep circuit, or in rare cases, a shorted capacitor or tuner.Feel free to ask and post whatever the result of your troubleshooting..

Hope this may help;

Sounds like you have a short in your power supply load. Probably the high voltage transformer and/or horizontal output transistor. Stargazer P.S. I've found that a lot of the newer sets are prone to high voltage transformer failure.

Tv problem

The F27442 uses the CTC203 series chassis and that symptom is very common. If the horizontal output is shorted you MUST resolder the coil in series with the base of that transistor and the pins of the small horizontal drive transformer. When they have been properly resoldered you can put in a new original horizontal output transistor. If the output transistor shorts out again then your flyback (high voltage) transformer is shorted and needs to be replaced.
