Wireless problem Hi, my name is Ricardo from Brazil. My wife has an Acer Aspire 5050-5554 and she reported me a wireless problem - she is out in Europe for some months. Well, the problem: when the note is connected to the AC power outlet, wireless doesn´t work. When she unplug the power cord (notebook working with battery) wireless works well!! Reconnecting the AC power outlet the note goes offline!! We have no idea how to solve it. Would you Please help us? Thanks Ricardo

Re: Wireless problem

You might want to try and access the Acer ePower Management settings. You can get there just by pushing the Empowering button (e)which should bring up the menu. Have a look at the profile settings and make sure the Wireless Lan button is "ON" for the mains power setting. That should keep your wife online! Michael (The Acer Guy)

My wireless has disappeared on my laptop acer/aspire

You can try Fn+F3 to bring up the launch manager, by which you can turn on your wireless.

Let me know if that doesn't work.

What is the wireless key combination for Sony Vaio PCG-62BP?

The wireless key that your machine is asking is actually the security key of your router. Just access your router and check the wireless settings page. You also need to remember the SSID or Network Name of your router.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Networking Problem

By local network do you mean using a wired connection or a wireless connection? I gather you mean with a wire.

The following link is to a PDF page listing the lan drivers from acer for an Aspire 3680 --

Drivers Link

The second and third entries on the list both appear to be wireless adapter drivers for built-in hardware (atheros or broadcom). Are you sure the driver you have loaded is the correct driver?

To determine which if the two may be suitable for your machine try the following

Click Start and right mouse click My Computer and select properties

Select the general tab and click on device manager

find your wireless adapter probably preceded by a yellow question mark (?)

double click on the wireless adapter entry

get the name at the top of the general tab and
the click the details tab and record the
device instance id value

Report what you found back here in a comment.

Hopefully the name will contain atheros or broadcom of not I hope I can lookup the device instance id string to determine the manufacturer of the wireless adapter.
