you need to set the password in your computer's network connection as well: control panel --> network connections --> wireless . find your SID network and delete it. then re-scan for network connections and when it finds it will ask for the password. enter the password and you should be good to go
Because of the fact that you can connect to your network without cable since it's unsecured you don't need to connect by cable. Skip this part and carry on with going to the routers settings site then to router wireless settings and password change. Remember to choose WPA method of security. you have to check if you have the wep key enabled. when you put in the wep key, it should also be enabled so that your wireless network should say security-enabled wireless network. make sure to disconnect and connect again on your network after changing the settings to refresh your connection.
