I have a Vizio 42' and a cable box and there's a constant humming

Do I turn the cable all the way down or do I use the cable to change the volume? Where's the humming coming from? I heard use both the TV and cable to change volume but nothing works

I think I had the same problem. This is how I fixed it.

I have my vizio 42 hooked up to a Harmon Kardon surround sound, and the digital cable box. Essentially, I can adjust the volume 3 ways - through the tv, cable box or av receiver. The humming sound happens when you have the volume maxed out on the av receiver and not the cable box.

For example, the sound level on my Harmon Kardon goes from -10 (lowest) to 10 (loudest), with 0 being the middle ground. The buzzing was happening when the Harmon Kardon was set to 10, and I was using the cable box volume to adjust the sound. To fix it, I turned down the volume on my receiver to 0, which may be about 50% max volume of the receiver. Then, I switched devices and used the volume on my cable box. This got rid of the static I was getting. Hope that helps.

You sure it's the TV? Are settings at default? Have you tried a factory reset? Does it change with a DVD? If it only does it with cable/satellite it could be the set top box and not the TV, in that case just exchange boxes with your provider.

Hum from tv

try unplugging any equipment that you have attached to the tv one at a time, such as dvd players, surround sound, cable box, etc. also if you have a cable box attached, try adjusting the volume on it. if you have everything unplugged from tv and it still hums, then it may be a tv issue

CONSTANT BUZZING SOUND

A buzz in the sound can come from having your audio cables to close to the power cords. Or a problem with the cable box. A problem with the Ac power supply like a bad input filter can cause a buzz. If it changes when you turn the volume up and down it is not power supply. Hope some of this helps.. It is hard to be sure without hearing it

Volume control

unplug the cable box for about 1 to 2 minutes. By doing this it will reset the cable box to its original settings. This will bring the volume to acceptable range. Hope i was able to help.

Vizio 42'' TV Sounds like it is in a metal tube.

The volume was up on the TV, but down on the cable box remote. By raising both volumes the sound quality improved dramatically.

Vizio Volume Control

I am sure you did this but recheck your audio menu on all your inputs. I have found that cables can go bad so make sure they are in good shape. Are you haveing the problems with all your inputs dvd, cable (direct cable or a cable box) whatever? It is hard to affect the audio by just moving the set. I am hoping that you changed something or the cables went bad that would be the easy solution.

Good Luck!
