No I haven't got the new ram yet. I was just trying to figure out how to install it first before I spent the cash if that makes any sense? When I had my computer scanned it said the only memory I have on my comp. is the 1gb it came with but that I have two empty slots. So I wasnt sure what that meant. What exactly do I need to look for to know Im putting it in the right spot? I know I probably sound stupid ...

Also my manual says system memory : Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM SUPPORT.

Up to 1 gb of ddr2 533Mhz memory, upgradeable to 2gb using two soDIMM modules (dual-channel support)

Okay I found out where it goes and how to put it in.... Now my question is it already has a card of 1gb so I found a 2 gb card but the split is on the oppisite side . Like instead of the split being in the right side its the left side but In my laptop how it goes in would be the split would have to be on the right side so How would I get that to work? What would be the point of buying two 1gb cards if I dont have to spot to put them?

Did you purchase RAM for this laptop already? Laptop RAM looks a lot different from desktop RAM - it's much smaller.

The RAM for your laptop will sort of slide in at an angle, then "snap" down into place. If you unscrew a few of the panels on the back of the laptop, you should find your current RAM as well as a place to put the new RAM.

Make sure the RAM you buy is rated for your laptop. There are a lot of different types and speeds of RAM on the market.

Laptops use a different type of RAM unlike a tower computer, the RAM is like little square pieces. Unscrew the cover, lift the old RAM out and replace with the new. Its located on the back or underside of the computer.

You need to know what you have, the speed of the RAM, how many pins you have first. Then you can get new RAM that will work with yours.

Here is a link where I get my computer gear.

Most RAM is 200 pin, you probably have DDR, PC2700, that is the most common found in laptops.

I have the acer5715/5315 series abd it crashed. I had it fixed and the guy put windows 7 so now none of my acer programs work. How can I get these to work with windows 7

Operating System Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2
Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista Home Basic
Windows Vista Starter

1. Before upgrading to windows 7, you must check the specification of your acer aspire 5315.

2. Windows 7 is better than windows vista but if you are really wanted those acer programs to work. You have to downgrade your operating system from your previous operating system.

I would like to add memory to my acer 5315 notebook. I have taken the panel off the back, but I don't know where to put the new RAM in. I can only find how to replace memory, not to add more.

The ram location is right where you are looking. There are two memory slots available for ram. They are staggered one on top of the other. Release the side pins and the module will pop up at a 45 degree angle . Pull the module out in the direction and replace at that angle, then push the module down in place. You may only have one memory slot filled at this time, Therefore there would be an empty slot to fill.

Can't get computer to recognize memory upgrade

Hello macvalland,

Here's a 12-step memory upgrade procedure from the tigerdirect.com website:

Upgrading Your Memory to Improve Performance
Compiled By Our Editors
http://static.tigerdirect.com/html/installingmemory.html
12 Quick, Easy Steps to Installing Desktop Memory
Increasing your computer’s memory is one of the most powerful ways to improve performance.. The following 12-step guide illustrates how you can install your desktop memory upgrade in 10 minutes or less with the use of a demagnetized screwdriver. But before you begin, make sure you are working in a PC-e environment. If you handle your circuitry improperly you can inflict permanent damage. Your PC’s biggest enemy is static electricity. Static electricity can damage your module and other computer parts. You need to ground yourself to avoid "shocking" your computer. Grounding yourself removes any static electrical charge your body might be carrying. To ground yourself, you can wear antistatic wrist straps or you can do the following: With your computer turned off, touch an unpainted metal part of your computer case with your hand. Plant your feet and do not walk around (because walking can produce static electrical build-up. Now you’re ready to proceed with our 12-step program for installing memory:

1. Make sure your PC has been turned off PC! You’d be surprised how many people forget this common sense first step.

2. Remove all the power cords from your computer system.

3. Remove all the screws that secure your computer case and put them in a place where you can
easily find them..

4. Remove the computer case. Usually you can simply lift the case off once you have removed all the screws. However, if you have difficulty removing the case, consult your computer’s user manual.

5. Locate the memory slots on your motherboard. In some PCs you will find then beneath a power supply or drive. If so, you may need to remove some additional parts in order to gain access.

6. If you need the replace an existing memory module, undo the module clamps and gently lift the memory module out of the slot.

7. Take your memory module out of its anti-static bag and hold it gently by the edges. Line up the notch on the bottom of your new memory module with the empty memory slot and press the new module down with your thumbs until the pins rest snugly inside the slot. You may have to exert some pressure! When will hear a click when the memory module is installed correctly.

8. Secure the new memory module by attaching the module clamps.
9. Put the computer case back on.

10. Replace the case screws to secure the case.

11. Attach your power cord.

12. Now that your new memory has been installed, turn on your computer!
Once your memory has been physically installed, the computer must install it electronically. Once your PC is turned on, you may have to go into computer BIOS to enable your system to detect the new RAM you have just installed. Refer to your computer us

Memory card

You need to purchase or borrow a USB memory card reader.
When you insert the SD card in the reader and then connect it to your USB port on your computer, the computer will see it as an external memory device.
