I have the same problem, sort of...
I have my TiVo hooked up on E1 Rear to the zv450mw8 so I can record shows from my TiVo to my DVR if I want to keep something I've recorded on my TiVo. Yesterday I came home from work and turned mine on. It defaults to VCR instead of DVR, but I wasn't interested in watching a DVD or recording anything, I was just going to watch "Live" Tv with my TiVo. Well, after about fifteen seconds my vz450mw8 shut off. I cannot get it to stay on at all. I've attempted to put a DVD in, but it doesn't even let me get it started before shutting off.

Okay, I don't know if this will help you or not, but I unplugged the unit and left it unplugged over night. This morning I plugged it in and it is working just fine. I did not have to reset anything or run setup again.

Good luck.

Okay, I was just going through my old email and found out that I had posted this and forgot to updated everyone. A couple of days later, I got up and the unit was off again. I unplugged it again and went to work and when I got home that evening, turned it back on and it went off again. I tried running set up again and it still wouldn't stay on. I noticed they were still selling them at Wal-mart, but they had a "Discontinued" on them, so I'm not going to get another one. Unfortunately, that is the only brand they had in stock. Sometime later, I moved and just threw it in the dumpster to keep from having to move it. The last time I noticed at Wal-mart, it's still the only brand of recordable DVD/VCR they sell and they removed the "Discontinued" sign and they had a bunch in stock. Not going to attempt to get that brand again. Now that I"m in a different city, I'll see what is available at either Best Buy or one of the several Wal-marts here.

Lost manual for DVD Recorder/VCR ZV450MW8 Need instructions to copy DVD Disk to VDD Disk or e-mail manual

To dub a DVD, first press Setup on the remote. Then select Recording (use the Up/Down arrows and then press OK). Navigate to and select Dubbing Mode. Select the direction for the duplication. Then press Setup to leave the Setup menu. Then press DVD to ensure that the unit is ready to play the DVD. (Press VCR if you are dubbing a video tape.) Then Press Play to advance to the section that you wish to duplicate, if needed, and then press Pause. (Press Pause a bit early; the dubbing process will lose about 5 seconds.) Now, press the other Mode button (VCR if recording to tape, DVD if recording to DVD). Next press D.Dubbing on the recorder or the remote. (The button is to the right of the Channel Up/Down buttons on the recorder. It's near the bottom left on the remote.) Press Stop when the section to be duplicated has been played in its entirety.

The Magnavox ZV450MW8 was manufactured by Funai with the Magnavox name. Thus Funai Service has the manual available: http://www.funaiservice.com/manual2012_search2.php . The direct link is http://www.funaiservice.com/manuals/MAGNAVOX/ZV450MW8/ZV450MW8.pdf . The directions for dubbing a DVD to VCR or vice versa start on page 48. Note: copy protected items cannot be duplicated.

I hope this helps.

When I insert a vhs tape into the turned on Magnavox zv450mw8 recorder it then shuts off, what goes

There are many delicate nylon parts in VCR's, they are usually the first to break, that is one possibility. The covers come off these pretty easily but I would pick it up and shake it first to see if something is rattling around inside, if you can hear something moving around in there and if it isn't something a child pushed inside (this often happens) then it is probably toast as it is more expensive to have fixed than it is worth. One other thing that is possible is that there is buildup on the capstan or tape guide rollers which can be sticky and wrap the tape around themselves and the machine will kick the tape out. If you are at all handy you could take the cover off, (FIRST MAKING SURE IT IS UNPLUGGED), plug it back in and insert a tape. As you watch the tape you can see at which stage of the cycle the tape backs out and maybe see the problem. As you can see many problems are possible, best to get another machine.

Magnavox ZV450MW8 shuts off when trying to rewind.

Unplug the machine and pick it up and shake it, this will tell you if something is in there that shouldn't be or that something broke off.
So many things could be wrong that it is probably not worth fixing if it is not a foreign object inside.

The tape pops back out

The loading mechanism has to seat the cassette in the play position. In this case the mechanism is unable to do this. If you cannot get any cassette to load, the vcr may be shot. It probably could be repaired but you would have to consider cost

Vhs tape stuck in vcr

Some one needs to open it to see if the tape is loaded but wrapped around a post or tangled up.

What usually causes this is the mechanism that moves the tape has a problem---bad or broken belt or rubber drive wheel that moves tape is bad.

Its called eating tapes.

With it apart you may be able to extract the tape and then insert with it apart to see if reels etc are or are not moving in RR and FF first and then in play to see what is not moving.

Magnavox VCR/DVD recorder model ZV450mw8. VCR plays a tape for 6 seconds then shuts the whole unit down.

You will need a technical person to open the unit. This problem can be as simple as a dirty sensor, or bad tape drive parts, or burned out computer chip.

Magnavox zv450mw8 Walmart VCR/DVD recorder. shuts off

on vcr's if the tape is hard to turn the tape will sense this and reject the tape. Try to get a tape that you can feel turn free eaiser. I would rewind it to the middle of the tape so each side is equal and it would make the tape run easier. If it runs ok then the unit is bad and is too sensitve to the pull on the tape. This is all designed in the electronics and there is not much you can do about it then get return it if you can.

I want to copy my VHS tape to a DVD

you should just have to hit the dubbing button on the front of the unit. Make sure you hit stop on both the vhs and the dvd sides. I found that in certain conditions it won't dub.
