The problem is the webcam software is hooked up on another program and the Messenger program cannot find it. I have a plug-in cam and can reboot it by just unplugging it for a couple of seconds before I go into chat.
You will have to restart the computer, use keyboard shortcut keys or diasable - enable the webcam from the Imaging folder in the Device Manager if yours is built-in
Re-check your webcam settings
INTERNET CONNECTION
Webcam connected
Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

TESTING
> Messenger > My webcam - the warning panel will launch, click 'OK' and your webcam will start. You should be rewarded at this stage with your happy smiling face.

DEFAULT
With webcam still running > Messenger > Preferences > Webcam > Camera Source - set your webcam as default using dropbox. > Camera Settings - adjust settings to suit. > Apply > OK
Take a note of any additional software, if you have multiple choice for Camera Source, you may wish to uninstall any redundant webcam software later to prevent conflicts

If you complete the above and still have problems - check to see if your cam is compatible with Yahoo

YAHOO SPECIFICATION

You need to click on [Start] then click on [My Computer] and then [Acer Crystal Eye Webcam] will show up then click on the [Camera]. If this does not work then it could be that the cam driver needs reinstalling or maybe faulty. Take it back to your dealer!

Probably don't have the drivers installed for the web cam or in some rare cases but not that uncommon skype don't support your cam

I do not now how to put the webcam on skype

go to Tools/Options/Video Settings and change it there. If they have a web cam connected to a laptop it's probably trying to use the laptop's built in camera, and if the lid is down you see squat. They'll likely have to go back and reset every time they reconnect the camera because Skype looses track of it and falls back to the default.

My laptop builtin webcam is only black when i am using it in yahoo messenger but its working properly when i am using skype ,google talk.my laptop is acer aspire 5610z

I often have problems like this using Windows Live Messenger. What you should do is :

  1. Sign in to your Yahoo Account
  2. Click on Messenger at the top left
  3. Click on Preferences under "Yahoo! Chat" and over "Privacy Options"
  4. After opening Preferences, click on "Video & Voice"
  5. Select the Camera Device you want to use while using Yahoo

Hope this helped!

I couldn't get my cam to work!

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to Yahoo Messenger.
COMPATIBILITY WITH YAHOO MESSENGER
Use Internet Explorer to visit this page to check compatibility and automatically download the latest webcam control

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger10/webcam/mstacamtest.html

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the Yahoo software may have difficulty in locating it. Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in, if yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.
Of all the chat programs, Yahoo is the most painful software to set up but if you follow these instructions you should be ok.

SET WEBCAM DEFAULT
With webcam still running > Messenger > Preferences > Webcam > Camera Source - set your webcam as default using dropbox. > Camera Settings - adjust settings to suit. > Apply > OK
Take a note of any additional software, if you have multiple choice for Camera Source, you may wish to uninstall any redundant webcam software later to prevent conflicts

PERMISSION OPTIONS
> Messenger > Preferences > Webcam - make your selections ( who you will allow to view you) > Apply > OK

IN USE
When you are both on line and wish to show your webcam > Actions > 'Invite to view my webcam'.
Messenger 10:- > Actions > More Actions > invite to view my webcam. This will launch an invitation on your contacts screen when they 'Accept' your webcam broadcast will start- There can be considerable time lag ( +1 minute) before they see you, so don't be too impatient ( You can check the status on the bottom left of your webcam panel. You can 'drag and drop' the frame to a convenient location by grabbing the top border.

Your contacts may need to configure their connection the same as INTERNET CONNECTION above (Ignoring webcam connected) if they get a "webcam not connected" message

Sometimes you may have to broadcast the 'small image' option from the 'Webcam' menu on the top of your image frames. This happens when one of you is down on resources -its like sending a large photo by email - its quicker if you cut the size down
you can zoom up to 200% from the same menu when the webcam picture comes through

Use the 'Always on top' option from the 'webcam' menu - or your image will disappear when you type a message
AUDIO
Example of a Typical audio set up

Laptop/mic x webcam/mic x Vista x Yahoo Messenger
If you have an earlier OS, you may have to access your hardware from the Control Panel.

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click OK
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays
Restart computer
CONFIGURE TO MESSENGER

Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

Click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Calling and Audio
Set mic and speakers to show Default equipment
Run call up assistant to test audio equipment > Apply > OK

If you have a lot of noise generated by feeback - a set of headphones will cut that out - just plug them in to the black socket with the earphone icon alongside

Yahoo messenger stops responding when u open my webcam on yahoo messenger

Please write what webcam you using with your yahoo messenger? and what is the camera type Desktop or Laptop built in? I think your webcam driver is not digitally signed...And in that purpose you could receive an error pop up or error box during installation containing Stop Installation or Continue Anyway...Try to use any branded webcam like Microsoft, A4 tech, Sony, Logitech etc... I think you can get my point... For further asistance please be with Fixya....Thanks and Good Luck

Acer aspire one webcam. HELP?

The Acer Crystal Eye Web Cam automatically integrates itself into whichever program you are using be it an aftermarket video control or Windows Live Messenger or Yahoo Messenger. The only way I know how to bring it up MANUALLY is to go to the Control Panel or your Start menu (in Accessories) and bring up the Scanner & Camera Wizard. When you bring that up, click "Next" and it will start the camera and you will see yourself. When using a program like Windows Live Messenger (version 8.5 is the BEST!) you will have to tell the program what source to use for the camera, Your only choice is the Crystal Eye Web Cam unless you have installed a different cam that sits atop your screen, in which case, tell the program to use that one. You might try downloading a program called YAWCAM from the web and installing that. Just do a Google search for it. Give that a try because the Acer web cam doesn't do video with the limited controls in Scanner & Camera Wizard.
