Brother intellifax 770 No Power? LCD is blank

Hi, came in yesterday, walked over to send a fax. The LCD screen is blank. Unplugged it, went over to another outlet that I know has power, plugged it in, and nothing. Same thing. Tried another outlet in another room. Same thing.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Shack

I have the same problem. After plugging in, I heard typical startup sounds and the paper feed pulled the page I wanted to fax through, so I am confident that power is successfully going to the machine. But my lcd screen is also blank. I called Brother and after 10 minutes on hold and 10 more minutes going through the live-automated, guided response protocol, the service assistant told me there was nothing to do but take the machine to an authorized service center. Grrr! Are fax machines for the blind this complicated?

Hello, I have the same problem. My 770 has absolutely no power. I have tried several electrical outlets, but it does not turn on. It worked fine about three months ago. Has been unpluged ever since. Sure don't want to trash it, as I loved that little machine... when working... please help!

I considered the power surge possibility and rejected it. We do not keep the fax machine plugged in unless in use. It worked the last time we needed it and it has been unplugged since then.

I have the same problem: no LCD. Determined that the outlet was fine, but the machine did not respond when unplugging/plugging it in. Support said I needed to take it in for repair. Unplugged it, unscrewed the bottom plate, and found a blown fuse on the circuit board connected to the power cord (needed to gently lift it from its cradle).

Bingo! Gentle does it, but there is the blown fuse! Big thanks to those who take the time to help others.

This fax machine was minutes away from the garbage can. I bought a 120 volt 5 amp fuse at Ace Hardware, popped it in and put the case back together. Plugged it in and it worked as good as new. I paid a Brother serviceman $75 to do exactly this 5 years ago. I would not have done that again. Thanks to all who chipped in their help on this.

I have a brother 770 fax. When making copies or sending faxes the paper has long black narrow lines running from the top to bottom. Please help.

Hi There!
One reason why you're having a black line on the copies you make and faxes that you send it's because the scanner glass inside the fax machine is dirty. Here's what you can do to resolve you're issue.
-Make sure the printer is off and unplugged from the power outlet for your safety. -Open the control panel, Prepare a dry lint free cloth and isopropyl alcohol, dampen the cloth with a small amount of alcohol. -Inside the fax machine look for a the long scanner glass clean it with the dampened cloth, using hand try to feel if there are debris or dirt and concentrate on cleaning that part. -Directly above the glass you will see a white strip clean that also with the dampened cloth
Once you're done cleaning, close the cover and plug it back in. Try to copy a blank sheet of paper and if you can still see the same line clean it again for about 3-5 times, Make sure to make a copy everytime you clean the glass.
Hope this helps!

I cannot send fax

Hi there!

For you to send a fax with the Brother Fax you can try these steps:

1. First make sure that you have a dial tone by lifting the handset or just by pressing the hook/speakerphone button. Once you have verified you have a dial tone press the hook button again to return to the main screen or hang up the handset. LCD should display the date & time

If you don't have a dial tone make sure that the telephone line cord is connected on the fax machine's Line jack. If you don't have a dial tone still, connect it to another working outlet. If you don't have a dial tone still, connect a working telephone on the wall jack to see if you'll get a dial tone. If you get a dial tone on the regular phone then problem is either with the line cord or the fax machine.

2. Once you have the date & time on the LCD screen, Load the document that you want to send on the automatic document feeder which is directly above the LCD screen.

3. The LCD screen should change from the date/time to "Enter Fax No. & Press Start" Once you got this screen dial the fax number and then press Start.

Hope this helps. Rate if it works.

Thanks!

Need to print fax journal from yesterday. When I printed one this morning it is blank. Can you walk me through steps to change.

The reason your your fax journal maybe blan is caused by 3 possibilities, the first being a possible power failure, the second being the unit had been unplugged from it's power source and the third being that the unit has been reset to factory defaults.

We had a power outage and are having trouble faxing to China....It rings, seems to connect then gives no error code and puts the fax out for re-dial...Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Plug a phone into this outlet and see if you get a dial tone. If you do not you will have to call the phone company. If you can use a phone at that outlet but not your fax, then you know that the power surge that came when the power turned back on damaged a fuse in your machine. Joe

Machine does not answer phone

Some things to check-

I know you said it wasn't unplugged but check the phone line is plugged into the line socket. I don't know how many times I had people who people unknown to them (children, cleaners) have knocked out the line cord and plugged it back in the wrong socket.

Hit the on-hook or hook button and check for dial tone. This will check if the line is still working.

Also the fax will have a mode button. If it has been bumped while moving it could be on manual mode (the machine will not automatically pick up)

Problem with fax

I'm no expert but, did you try touching the online or hook button on the fax to hear the dial tone? Or connect a basic home phone into the phone jack at the wall the fax was plugged into. Do you get a dial tone. If no dial tone, call the phone company. If there is a dial tone, its the fax.
