I have two operating systems Windows 98 and Windows Xp. Windows 98 was working fine then it just quit booting up. It gives an error message- "A fatal exception OD has occurred at 0028:c005981c in V*D vmcpd(01) +0000035C. XP is partitioned. I tryed a 98 boot disc but it did not solve the problem. I have a lot of business stuff on 98 that I had intended to transfer but hadn't gotten around to it. I know you are going to say that I can still get to the data: and I can, but it is a great chore. If I could get 98 to boot it would be a lot easier to tranfer everything.

Re: Windows 98 won't boot up
Hi, Can you run Win98 in Safe Mode? Just tap F8-F10 or Del or Esc on booting (It's different buttons on different machines) to enter Advanced Settings and run Win98 in Safe Mode. You can get access to your files, and maybe even System Restore back to a point before you had the problem? Worth a try..

boot your computer with windows XP cd. it will install winXP automatically but remember to install windows XP other than the drive where your win7 is. for examp: if your win7 is in C drive, install XP in D drive.
hope you can do.
Try using the XP compatibility wizard. Start > Programs > Accessories > Program Compatibility Wizard. There are ways to dual boot 98 and XP, but there are a lot of details involved. It requires a lot of research. Best to do a Google search for "dual boot windows 98 and XP". Here is one result: http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/dualboot.htm
When pc first starts, press the F2 key to open the pc cmos settings. Look around and find the boot list and ensure that the machine will boot on cd before hdd. Than boot on your OS cd and attempt to repair existing. This will at worse case reinstall your system.
what i can suggest u is(1) boot from the cd first to do that at the starting of booting press del key in keyborad and u will go to cmos there u change the first boot priority to the cdrom then save and exit the setup put the xp cd in cdrom restart the computer and it will show like boot from cd windows xp... press enter it will boot and then follow the instructions or (2) else if u alredy have any operating system working on ur comp then go to the operating system and then put the xp cd the cd will auto run there it show u setup or install windows xp after that it will boot from there follow the instructions any of the comp can have windows xp might be u have got a non bootable disk then go to the(2)solution
This is a little difficult but it can B done :) Firstly I dunno if ya need to re-format ya drive? perhaps first ya could try to "Repair" of Win98? If that doesn't work, then, perhaps ya may have to re-format. If the Win98 is on a SEPARATE drive or Partition this also makes a difference....
Basically ... repair/re-install win98, then do a repair of ya Boot menu for XP, as Win98 sets up an incorrect Boot up for XP, and thus must be "Fixed" so XP will boot & show a Dual boot menu..
