The ink cartridge is not properly fitted or installed or does not detect the ink catridge, remove again and fitted it correctly.

Also, clean with alcohol the gold chips of the ink cartridge and maybe there is sticky residue when you remove the sticker. Turnoff your printer and plug it on again to refresh the memory.

Go to Control Panel->Printers. Then right click on your printer and select printing preferences. There you will see an option like Print in Grayscale or Black and White only.
However, please note that some printers although they are set to print in grayscale they also use the color cartridge and some even don't allow you to print in grayscale if the color cartridge is empty. Why is that? Manufacturer's way of charging you more money.

I figured it out! For all those who have problems clicking it into place it's probably the printer's not on. Turn it on an the top half of the cartridge holder which is connected to the printing head should slide to the left part of the printer when it's on, then slide the cartridges in an click in.
