1 1/2 yrs. ago put new battery, starter & alternator (it was refurbished). Found out it was ignition. A friend ran wire & put in toggle switch for ignition.
Now I'm in alaska (-21) started up, then stalled. Went to start again & as soon as I hit toggle to start- completely dead (no dash lights, etc.)
Checked all fuses, tried to get jump start...nothing. I removed steering column housing & tried to start with screwdriver on ignition wires & still nothing.
Got new battery. no help.
It seems that when I turn key on - dash lights come on, when try to start - lose all power.....
Pleeeaaaaassssee can someone help!?
Have you checked the sensor for the airbag connection on the the amigo airbag
If everything is turning on, and there's power... check for 12V at the alternator. it may be out now.... or a connector came loose, or wire broke.
sorry i meant to type starter... not alternator. LOL
The solenoid kicks the starter into the flywheel.... if the starter were good and solenoid bad, you would hear it spinning. The solenoid will make a clicking sound if the starter is seized up and not spinning.
If neither do anything, i would suspect the wiring. Both dont usually go out at once.
when it is -20, grease, oil and other fluids freeeeeeeeeze.
There is undue stress put on the starter trying to crank in that cold weather. So in your climate, i would say yes!
you HIT the battery and it started?
Have you checked that the posts are on tight?
Or maybe the wire got jogged going to the starter?

hmm - will check the alternator connections.
i was just told possible solenoid trouble??? would it seriously go out that quick & stop spark to ignition????

don't have a volt meter....tried checking the connections - seem ok - got way too cold last night (-20)
I did notice the "clicking" sound - only did it like once when key turned on - then all goes dead when try to start.
Then, I hit the battery terminal & lights came back on....so u think its the starter?
Is it common for a starter to seize up only after 1 1/2 yrs.? It was new.

Ended up being a very corroded positive battery terminal.

I was here yesterday in regards to this problem............ When I turn on the ignition I lose all power. It was suggested that since it will start with a boost, it's most likely a cable problem. Now,,, which one do you people think it is positive or negative cable?
Also, I charged my battery overnight before trying this again.
Now while you answer this, I'll go boost it again.
