Solution to the original problem above.

You need to connect TomTom to a computer and run their 'TomTom Home' program. Let it check for updates. It will download a file called "QuickGPSfix data". This file updates your TomTom with the latest satellite positions and ensures your TomTom will find its coordinates very quickly after switching on. A new file can be downloaded at least once a week. Generally, the longer you left it since downloading this file, the longer it will take to find its coordinates (ie. find a signal).

Hope this help.

Chris.

I was having same problem, tried resetting to factory settings, turning it off and on, tried downloading stuff from tomtom site etc etc. Spent 5 hours trying and finally found the hard reset hole at bottom of TomTom. Put pin in and held for 15 seconds, took pin out waited for 5seconds. It turned itself back on and all the GPS signals were back. Hope this works for you

My Tom Tom cannot find a GPS signal or sattelite signal. It has been working fine but is no longer able to find a signal or where i am. i have turned it on and off and can navigate through all the pages...

When was the last time you updated the QuickFix of your TomTom? It helps your GPS to find the satellites.

Please, do the following:

1) Install "TomTom Home" software in your computer from www.tomtom.com
2) Start TomTom Home in your computer
3) Plug in the GPS dock to your computer's USB port and place the GPS on the dock. The green light on the bottom right of the GPS should turn ON to indicate that the GPS is getting power from the dock and charging
4) Start your GPS while being in the dock. If the GPS asks "do you want to connect to computer" answer "YES"
5) The TomTom Home software will detect the GPS and check if there are any updates for it. Then you'll be offered updates to install. Some are free, some are not. You choose the ones you want to install.
Please, report back if you need further assistance

No valid GPS signal for two days, what I can do?

You can try a reset Check in the manual where the reset hole is i thinlk this model is under the scfreen surround which is removable.

This will take ut back to factory settings, you might want to check if its set to the right PORT and BAUD try this

GPS Program Port: COM1
GPS Hardware Port: COM9
Baud Rate: 4880
Manage GPS Automatically (Ticked)

Now other reasons are low battery= low signal//fully charge the battery

no signal from satellites= damaged SIIRF chip caused by plugging into car power when starting engine...needs new m/board

Maximum time to access 1-9 minutes max...

Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA...

TomTom won't turn on

Try holding the power button in for about 15 - 20 seconds to see if it comes on, do this whilst plugged into a computer or your car.

When I turn on my TomTom, it says GPS signal lost for about 3-4 minutes before it picks a signal up. This happens everytime no matter where I am. Then it works fine.

Does your GPS have a good view of the sky?
i.e. not mounted low on the dash of your car.

it really only needs to find 3 satellites to work but it might take a while to lock on if reception is low.

When you say every time you turn it on. I assume that you don't go days without turning it on. A GPS stores information about satellites and their orbits across the sky and keeps it for about 6 days. The download process of this information is fairly slow. If you run it most days the information gets updated while the gps is running so you tend not to notice.

Just some ideas to think about.

TomTomGPS Looses Signal and can not ge it back

ohh dear! I wish I had a rubber stamp for this.

TomTom are cheap and nasty GPS and suffer from more problems than a leper.By some means or other it is possible that either your battery is too low to connect.. although in DC it still will not charge sufficiently to connect for a long time. try the AC charger if it came with one. Otherwise you have damaged the SIIRF chip and that is an expensive repair
The number of TT faults currently running on this media with the same problem is about 600

Never start the engine with the GPS plugged in. Its not covered by warranty for this fault

No GPS Signal in TomTom One XL all of a sudden

I suddenly lost the GPS signal today and could not get it back. All I got was the "No valid GPS signal". My solution was to tap on the GPS satellite bars when in the route map. this brought up the "Status summary page of the TOMTOM.

I then again tapped the satellite bar which brought up the "GPS Status" page. I then tapped the bar labeled "configure".

The radio button next to the option titled "Minutes (dm.m') was selected. I then moved the selection to "Degrees (d.d) and it started working.

I had just downloaded the GPS fix 5 days ago so it is not like this suddenly caused it to stop working.

This may not work for everyone but this is what it took to get mine working.

Cheers
