Question about Sony TC-WE305 Single Cassette Deck

1 Answer

Sony tape decks model tc-355

Have 2 of these units with left channels that dont work. Verified power supply good but beyond that I am not an electronics person. Vu meter never moves with output or input or switches in source or tape. Same problem whether connected to amp or earphones.

Follow the left channel lead to where it joins with the PCB. Use a pointed tool and prod connections if you get a buzz then that stage in the amp is working. I suspect you will find it leads to a IC that might cause the fault. If you find it buzzers on the right but not left, then it's gone. PS don't short pins. If you can get hold of a signal injector it will make things easy.
Be careful and good luck.

Model TC-W233 when I push the power button nothing comes on???

There is either a burned out transformer or more likely a broken solder joint or defective power supply part in the unit- it needs professional work.

Yes and no. If you swap the channel leads over the fault should go to the other channel. Still the same, then not the Cassette deck.
There are several causes to one channel going. First the lead to the tape head is off or the head has gone!! Secondly a switch either on the front of the machine or the inside (when it switches to record) is faulty. Lastly an electronic fault. The good thing is that you have one good channel to play with. So as they are both the same any readings should be the same for both channels. The electronics will also buzz when touched with an insulated tool. So if it buzzers in one place in one channel it should do the same in the other in the same place.

Where can I have my 15 year old Sony Model TC-WR465 Stereo Tape Deck Repaired? The problem appears to be mechanical. The tapes will not advance on either side of the unit.

Depend on your location and willingness to ship the unit. The cost of the repair must also be weighed in. If you don't want to put $100 into it I don't think most shops these days will want to open it up. Dual cassette deck are notorious for failure due to cheap design. Look around at all the problems. I have been fixing units for 40 years and even at Sony and Sony authorized.
I can look at it at Skywave Tape Deck Repair in Chicago area if you want. Google it.

Sony TC-530 hum in internal amplifier left channel.

Electrolytic capacitors are good at causing hum. You could try replacing some of them, they are not expensive. Otherwise you might have damaged the left channel amp semiconducter, whatever that might be.

Speed of TC 355 Tape recorder is too slow. Rest of the deck fine

Hi...
AS someone who repairs items like these I would say -- Find another in good condition. It would be cheaper than a repair.
