Question about Fisher Price Toys
If I can remove the 4 hex screws, how do I open FP music box record player, #995 or #995N
Fisher Price Music box: to open, remove the four screws from the bottom, open the two parts as wide as possible without using too much force. Using a small flat blade screw driver, insert between the red cover and white top where the wind up knob is located. Pry the red bottom out far enough to allow the ring surrounding the knob to slide under the red bottom. The box is now open.
After repair, and re-assembling, make sure the wider part of the wind up stop wheel faces the front of the player, otherwise the wind up knob catches and slows the mechanism.

When you have taken the case off, if it is running slowly then some WD40 works very well in the clockwork mechanism. Also WD40 the head of the arm. The xylophone in the head is very fiddly to adjust but persevere and once again our 37year old's record player is ready for the grand-children

It just pulls apart, but with a little difficulty because the music box fits in quite snugly. And when it does come apart, surprise - the pieces fall out leaving hardly a clue where they belong. Try to peak in while prying it slightly to note where they go. The parts that fall out include a yellow winder button, a red casing around it (both visible from the outside), and a yellow spoked wheel that rides on the side of the winder button to prevent overwinding. Make sure you try it out completely before reassembling so you don't have to take it apart again to turn something around or reset the spoked wheel. It snaps together a little easier than it comes apart.

Remove 4 screws. Pry open about 1/4 inch, just enough to insert red straw attached to your WD40 nozzle. Lubricate metal parts inside near the stem of the yellow wind-up knob. Lubricate metal wheels under the armature. That did the job for us! Player seems to operate at normal speed.
