Question about HP Officejet 5610 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Then it says "refer to device documentation to troubleshoot."
Aww - this question has been answered before with great results.
Here is the link to that previous post - there are 2 solutions that can work so depending on your situation you may have to check both.

Check whether the Digital Imaging Monitor is running .
If yes, good.
Now, please open HP Solution Center and setup the destination list .
Double click >> HP Solution Center >> settings >> scan settings and preferences >> scan to .. setup >>
Add all the entries from " available scan destinations " to "front panel destination list " >> click >> ok .
Now, try to scan from the front panel of the All-in-One .

this means the printer has not been configured to the computer,,
1st check the connection of the printer and the computer,,
then check if all the software like the basic print and scan drivers, hp solution center and the hp imaging device function had been installed or not,,
if all the above things had been checked then
open hp solution center,,
go to scan settings,,
select scan to set up.....,,
you will get two columns there,,
the left will be for the solution center and the right one will be for the printer,,
you will see two arrows in between the columns,,
populate the entries on the printer that is on the right column using the arrowes,,
once done click update device,,
then close the olution center and restart the printer,,
then check it will work................
