Is this a new computer (built for vista)? If so, then the most likely culprit is the driver set in XP cannot handle your hardware. so it locks when it gets to that point. Or it could be a read/write error. First try installing again, but delete all existing partitions and make new one, and when you format, do not use quick format. If that doesn't do it, you will most likely need to build a custom windows install cd to make it work. You can slip stream Service Pack 3 in, and that helps. you can also slipstream drivers for your PC into the disc so that the will be available at install time. Check out nLite, at the link below, really good package for doing this.

nevermind, I see that this is a 1998-2000 era machine, still try the solution I posted, it may help you out, as this still may be a hardware issue that wasn't accounted for in the intial relaeas of XP, but was accounted for in a Service pack. Good Luck

Hi,

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Windows is corrupt...
if you get the option "Load windows in Safe Mode"
then try that option and let the machine load...
once you get the desktop....just shut down and wait for 5 mins to re-start....
if your still have the same trouble
then i am sorry that Windows files has got corrupt and need to be restored....
if you have the WinXP cd or the Recovery CD then try reapir / recovering the system...
if all these fails then the final method is to reformat and re-install Win OS.....
reg
send me a feedback on how you managed....let me c if i can help you again....

My laptop won't boot from cd

to reset the BIOS, there is a small battery somewhere in your computer. if you unplug it for 3 seconds, it will reset the BIOS. I RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT TRY THIS! get a service professional. If this doesn't work you might need to get a new laptop.

Error mes

Hi,

Go to the motherboard's CMOS/BIOS setup, normally by pressing "Del" button to enter setup immediately on powerup before XP boots. Set you PC to boot from the CD ROM and not your HD. Thereafter, go through the installation procedure again. You need to format the HD again to clear all former failed installation.

If your concern has not been corrected after completion of the above procedures, pls post back info on motherboard brand and model.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FIXYA.
