Hi Susan Abboud - Modern freezers have increased storage capacity and keep more even temperature that may require the compressors to run longer but use less energy. Was the unit disconnected previously for any reason? If so, freezer requires a minimum of 4 hours to cold down completely. Confirm that the temperature control is not set too cold and that the door is not being open frequently. A dirty, cracked, worn or poorly fitted door gasket can allow warm air to enter the unit causing it to have to run longer to remove the warm air. Leaks in the door seal will cause freezer to run longer in order to maintain desired temperature. Cleaned the gasket, if it is too damage then it will need to be replace. You can check and see if the door seal is bad by, placing a dollar between the gasket and cabinet. Check to see if the door is being blocked by anything stopping it from closing properly. If nothing is stopping the door then replace gasket. Keep in mind that there should also be at least 4-6 in of air space on all sides of the unit. If freezer is built in or has items stored on top that cover the unit, the can cause long run times, high temperature in the freezer and premature failure to the unit. Do not block the toe grille on the lower front of the unit. Sufficient air circulation is essential for the properly operation of your freezer, about 3 inches around the unit.

Hi: It sounds like you bought a frost free freezer as it has a fan. The fan will come on to circulate the air. It will not necessarly run continuosly. The noise is most likely coming from the fan. I sold Frigidaire freezers for years and they are noisy compared to a refridgerator. If you think it is louder than it was when you bought it, I would replace the circulating fan. Also look at the back wall for frost as it could be a bad defrost heater blocking it with ice. Most likely just the fan though. Since it's in a detached garage, and you won't have to put up with the noise inside your house, it could run a while before failing. The fact it's getting cold is a very good sign. Also as you asked 2'nd, a freezer is ok in an unheated garage. Don't put a refrigerator in there. Unless It is a Whirlpoll Gladiator that is designed for such applications. Use www.searspartsdirect.com to find out where the fan is if you feel it is necessary to replace it. Its not a tough job if you are handy. Their shipping is expensive so you might want to buy it locally.

tom, There is no E reading on the control at all...just 29 and the high temp light is on..I've tried plugging and unplugging....the temperature inside is very cold and the food is frozen very well.....James my freezer isn't in the garage, its in my basement And it's never been 100 degrees where I live ..ever! Lol..I went downstairs yesterday and discovered that the freezer compressed had actually stopped running and the freezer temp control said -23 which is too cold but within a minute the compressor turned back on and it went back to reading 29 C...I don't mind paying to fix it...it was an expensive freezer over a year ago...just thought there might be something to try first before I call for service..
And if I can mention a couple of possible solutions to the service guy and sound knowledgable perhaps he won't try to take me to the cleaners by fixing something that doesn't have to be fixed p&r charge me double looking for solutions that are obvious...unfortunately it's happened! And thank you for your suggestions so far!
